More things that A.I. code review gets wrong all the time:Comments
- Doesn't "pay attention to" (put any weight on) the reference operator token (&).
- Doesn't understand member variables; always thinks they're bad references to undeclared variables.
- Doesn't know that header files don't contain implementations. Complains that functions in the header file don't do this or that.

I hate Java, but I will say this: It's a lot quicker to review than C++. It can take quite a while to prove whether something is really a memory leak or not.Comments

There are a ton of articles out there about how contractors should always be building their client pipeline.Comments
I just talked to a bunch of other contractors from the Recurse Center. There were maybe a dozen of us? Not a single person had a pipeline going. -
Why iRobot’s founder won’t go within 10 feet of today’s walking robotsComments
"These approaches, Brooks argues, ignore decades of research showing that human dexterity depends on an extraordinarily complex touch-sensing system. He cites work from Roland Johansson's lab at Umeå University showing that when a person's fingertips are anesthetized, a seven-second task of picking up and lighting a match stretches to nearly 30 seconds of fumbling. The human hand contains about 17,000 mechanoreceptors, with 1,000 concentrated in each fingertip alone. Recent research from David Ginty's lab at Harvard has identified 15 families of neurons involved in touch sensing, detecting everything from gentle indentation to vibrations to skin stretching. That's a lot of sensory information that current robot systems cannot yet capture or simulate."

“I feel excited to be moving to Long Beach, because there’s no fucking way I’m staying in the city with that piece-of-shit jihadi communist as mayor,” a woman called Felice said, combining Islamophobia with inaccuracy.
This is so good.
“I already have a real-estate broker. I already got approval for a loan. I already picked out four places I’m gonna go see on Monday.”
Felice, who was drinking wine, added that New Yorkers had voted for Mamdani because “there’s a lot of transplants and young people and foreigners who voted, who bought his bullshit”. -

I saw a "Junior Web Developer" position and thought about applying. Some part of me imagines it being fun, but in practice, it would probably be frustrating having to go along with ill-informed decisions.Comments
Then again, senior software engineers also have to do that! If it weren't for the bad health insurance situation and client gaps, it would be nice to stay contracting. -
ICE shoots U.S. citizen in Ontario, CaliforniaComments
Carlos Jimenez, a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, was on his way to work at a food bank when he was shot by ICE officers in what a DHS spokesperson calls “defensive shots.”
"Assault"
On Thursday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., ICE officers were at Vineyard Avenue in Ontario when Jimenez, who was not in the target vehicle, attempted to pull in front of the officers.
According to Javier Hernandez, executive director of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, Jimenez was trying to assist and provide aid to the person who was being stopped by ICE officers.
After Jimenez was shot in the shoulder, the LA Times and LA Taco reported that he drove to his brother’s house so he could take him to the hospital.
He was released and then booked at West Valley Detention Center. He is now facing charges for assault on a federal officer.
Ontario Police were also present at the scene to “provide traffic control and scene security while DHS conducted their investigation,” according to a press release.
And now ICE is shooting people. They are escalating very steadily. -
Judo was good tonight in that I feel a good sense of well-being after having worked out but also bad in that I realized how much trouble I'm going to be in this weekend's tournament.Comments
We did some more intense randori, and I had a hard time moving larger opponents, and most likely, larger opponents are what I'm going to get. Left side osotogari is the only throw that worked.
I'm going to have to remember to take big steps backward if I can't move them, and I'm going to have to give up on sode tsurikomi goshi, as cool as it is, because I can't move anyone's sleeve up if they're stronger than me. Also, my kouchi gari is getting better, but still not really doing anything, so I have to drop it.
So, I have to fall back to old school kouchi makikomi, if I can get close, and seoinage, 2009-style. Should I break someone's posture, maybe I'll try harai goshi; I've got to be real completely drop uchimata attempts.
My conditioning is better than it was, but four minutes is still going to really be tough. Nothing I can do about that now.
Well, mostly I'm just going to show up, and at worst, I can at least boost someone else's combat esteem. -

The dark side of Japanese convenience storesComments
7-Eleven, FamilyMart and Lawson all rely on a franchise business model to operate stores, taking a cut of sales or gross profit as a royalty in return for store owners using their brand, products and supply chains.
Whoa. That's worse than Apple!
In 7-Eleven’s case, typically between 40 to 70 per cent of gross profit — sales minus cost of goods sold — is paid to the company.Seven & i [the holding company that owns 7-Eleven], which makes 7.5 per cent of its sales but more than half of its operating profit in Japan…

“I Don’t Feel Safe”: Black Memphis Residents Report Harassment by Trump’s Police Task ForceComments
When the Memphis police returned Williams’ wallet, the officer cautioned him: Don’t do anything bad and keep your ID on you. That warning, said Williams, who posted about the stop on Facebook, echoes a slavery-era requirement that free African Americans carry “freedom papers,” official court documents to prove they weren’t enslaved lest they be returned to bondage by slave patrols or law enforcement.
There are people that wanted this to happen, and it’s important to remember that. Despite popular admonitions about finding common ground, there is no common ground now.
The U.S. Marshals Service, which leads the task force, did not respond to specific questions about Williams’ experience but disputed accounts of Black residents being harassed.
“The suggestion that our federal law enforcement officers are racially profiling citizens is not founded in reality and undermines the credibility and safety of the Task Force Officers who should be commended for the exceptional work they are doing to keep this community safe!” Ryan Guay, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service, said in a written statement. - Comments
