If you’re wonder how I feel about
forcing teachers to run standardized tests in a pandemic year that affected poorer people disproportionally…you already know! Here’s the letter I wrote to the school anyway:
Hi, I just read about the suspension of Rose Levine at Graham and Parks on the day that her students graduate (as well as that of another teacher). I imagine you will decline to comment about why this is being done to only two particular teachers, (others also refused to administer the MCAS) but if you do, it may help people to understand why this is happening.
If you don’t, it just looks like a particularly cruel retaliatory action, which is jarringly out of character for Cambridge Public Schools, and particularly for Graham and Parks.
So, what exactly happened here? It is puzzling, probably even more so to the students, because we regularly celebrate the likes of Rosa Parks and others that stand up to unjust rules.
I do wonder if those two were ralliers. And it’s otherwise a really nice school!
