Lee Harrison from Monstrosity is on the new episode of Heavy Hole. I went along to some show at a crappy venue in Hanover Park in the ‘90s where Monstrosity opened for Voivod. I didn’t really get either band, at that time though I was impressed.

Lee Harrison speaks in a way that makes me think he might be stoned (especially because at one point he says, “Sorry, what was the question, again?”), but at the same time, he has an incredibly detailed recall of meetings and happenings in Florida in the ‘90s. And he’s incredibly disciplined about keeping projects together and continuing.

The hours of video, given exclusively to The Appeal by Williams, show police officers bragging about attacking protesters, targeting nonviolent demonstrators for violence and possible arrest, discussing arrest quotas and the use of cars as weapons, and multiple instances of excessive force and liberal use of pepper spray.

The city and BPD’s narrative during this time was that protests were peaceful during the day, but they got violent at night. This is why. The core problem isn’t that there’s a lot of thugs among the police, like the ones in these videos, but that people, especially other police, refuse to call them that. In fact, if I were running from office, me saying that the people committing this thuggish behavior were thugs would be all someone would have to point at to get me shunned.

The other thing to note here is that body cameras brought a truth to light that might not otherwise be exposed. The common criticism of body cameras is that they don’t modify police behavior, which they don’t, and thus shouldn’t be counted on for that. They do, however, deliver valuable information like this.

Evicted during the pandemic

Even if you can predict the facts of this story, it is really worth listening to to reacquaint yourself with what widespread eviction means.

Wasn’t able to stay off the keyboard yesterday because of the whole health insurance thing. Doing it for real today!

Up again. It was actually Bonus Cat that got me up, not the guy, who got up but was just reading. Cats need literacy.

I got up at 4:30 because of a super loud snow plow. I read some stuff and wrote some stuff, had some coffee and oatmeal.

I feel ready to go to bed again, now? But the guy is bound to wake up in 15 minutes.

The guy: Can you leave me alone?
Me: Yes. Yes, I can!

20 burpees, 14 pull-ups, 16 minutes on the basement treadmill. I used to really hate treadmills, but I found I had a little more tolerance this time. Listening to podcasts with can-style headphones so I can actually hear the podcasts may have helped.

When I did my health insurance research a few weeks ago, I found a plan that included our preferred doctors.

Today, I went to sign up, and they’re no longer covered by that plan, and now I have to go with one that’s $300 more per month. 😬 I updated the budget, and we’re still OK, but my break may have to be shorter than I originally planned.

I thought maybe there was a problem with the plan search tool, but I looked at the medical network site, and sure enough, there was a notice that they were breaking up with the plan I originally wanted.

It’s really weird that I mostly lost the day to making sure this was real and that there were no alternatives. That was a lot of time!

Well, my wrist and parts of my hand do not feel quite right today. I’m going to put off shoveling and guitar playing today. I’m going to limit keyboard typing today to one hour max. And I’m saying it out loud in hopes that I actually do it.

My workout today was walking up a sled hill like seven times.
