I listened to the new Old Sorcery and was sort of shocked to hear guitars and vocals on the first track because I expected pure dungeon synth. I like it, though, and it makes me feel better about having guitar on the songs I'm working on, which I intended to be dungeon synth (even though I shouldn't need permission from anyone).

Bummed that our bog trip got rained out, but it does feel good to know that you got your roof fixed while heavy rains are happening.

I went to the online speakeasy.js meetup and saw an amazing talk about simulating NTSC video. (You can press the down key to go through the slides. After the talk, they had a virtual mingling thing in which you video chat with one other person.

The first two people were fun to talk to, and I learned some interesting stuff about what they were doing and their part of the world.

The third person I talked to was Substack, the speaker, and a programmer I really admire. This possibility didn’t occur to me, and I had no idea what to say. I think the first thing I said was “Substack!” (Not even sure he goes by that in person.) I ended up asking questions about his demo which were answerable by him showing me the code, which I only partly understood, but felt bad about making him break it down even further. 😰

All this could have been avoided by thinking of this as a possibility and then just making sure I just said the same kind of normal things to him that I’d say to anyone else.

Anyway, he was cool, and the talk gave me a lot to think about really digging all the way into something you find interesting.

Frustrated by multiple situations at work again. However, I did figure out what you do and don't get from an LLC and registered one, and got an EIN, too.

We read the Mount Doom part of Lord of the Rings for bedtime tonight. I didn’t realize that the trope in which destroying the Big Artifact causes all the evil buildings to immediately collapse and explode came from there.

Also, I still find it remarkable that for all the heroic archetypes in the story, ultimately, Tolkien makes a hideous accident a big factor in saving the world. He takes the story back to a feel that of old myths that preceded the idea that people were great and made everything happen.

Reading documents, signing them, getting them notarized, and overnighting them took close to a total of two hours today. I hate when mindless stuff like that takes that long. Though, oddly, I don’t when like mindless stuff like installing blinds takes that long.

Mostly to give my wrists a rest, I did no computer stuff. I thought I’d be anxious about not making progress, but it was satisfying. It’s too bad tangible deeds like installing blinds and getting rid of junk doesn’t pay.

Forgot to work out again; 12 pull-ups. My legs felt fairly dead anyway, possibly because of the (short) bike ride?

Well, skate is a fish with a weird ropey texture, it turns out. It is beyond the power of the bay leaf for us. No one liked it, except the cats.
