Recalling a Nintendo Power issue about Ninja Gaiden in which they had this extensive non-video game article about the ninjas in general. That was weird!

Via Hot Garbage, a history of harassment campaigns. It's striking in retrospect how conservative 4chan was early on. In the aughts, people mostly thought of them as just disgusting losers that were non-politically motivated.

One feature I do miss from Twitter is pinned tweets and being able to retweet oneself. Might have to implement something like that here for things I think shouldn't be missed. Maybe just a sidebar in HTML, actually.

My colleague Thor pointed out that Demogorgon's current name is the result of a misreading.

The origins of the name Demogorgon are not entirely clear, though the most prevalent scholarly view now considers it to be a misreading of the Greek δημιουργόν (dēmiourgon, accusative case form of δημιουργός, 'demiurge') based on the manuscript variations in the earliest known explicit reference in Lactantius Placidus (Jahnke 1898, Sweeney 1997, Solomon 2012). Boccaccio, in his influential Genealogia Deorum Gentilium, cites a now lost work by Theodontius, and that master's acknowledged Byzantine source, "Pronapides the Athenian", as authority for the idea that Demogorgon is the antecedent of all the gods. Art historian Jean Seznec concludes that "Demogorgon is a grammatical error, become god."

Maybe someday, alot will also ascend.

Well, despite saying I'd never do this, I stayed up ridiculously late tonight to finish my NaNoGenMo entry. FWIW, only one night, though, not a series!

It's no longer about burrows, but rather about finding a friend in space. Appropriately titled, Where in Space Is My Friend??? Unsure how readable it is at 50 pages (which I did in the spirit of the challenge), but probably readable at 12 pages or so.

Here is the app I made to make it. You can hit "clear seed" to generate a new page. Was originally going to do an automated thing with Puppeteer, but in the end, I just glued screenshots of it together into a PDF.

Tried to do some fancy automatic Bézier curve layout tonight; failed. Relearned some trigonometry, though.

There's one day left of NaNoGenMo, so I'm gonna have to pivot.

Small guy and his friends came up with the idea of having a sleepover on their own. They were disappointed that it wasn't going to happen tonight.

I think this is the first time, he's come up with a social event on his own!

I feel fully rested, and my throats has no crud. The second cold I thought might be coming on is dead. No back pains whatsoever. I even worked out yesterday in the cold.

I am as amazed by my condition as these guys are amazed by this bird.

Just learned: Cancer the Crab was an ally of the Hydra. When it fought Hercules, Cancer bit Hercules's foot!

Re: last note: Yes, I know Mastodon is not as bad as Twitter, but it has the much of the same dangerous design. Plus, I don't want to invest in a platform and have shit hanging over me unless I really believe in it.

I deleted Twitter and Mastodon accounts for Colorer, Dem Bones, Land of Contrasts, and Hills! Feels good to inch my way toward being completely off of providing content to social media platforms that use free content to keep users around so that they can fuck with them.

I'll do Fucking Shakespeare and Autocomplete Jokes next, then I actually have to do some work to port more bots to RSS, which I can't get to until December. I hope to have them all off by the end of 2018, but it may not happen. If not then, early in 2019!
