I'm "on" Mastodon over here, though I don't actually post.Comments
I'm ambivalent about Mastodon — even though it's not controlled by Elon Musk, I'm not sure it's a great idea to pour a bunch of stuff into that format to whoever controls the various instances. It's sort of a parallel to how I now think "MIT License by default" is a bad idea.
I don't think it's harming the world to read it, though, since you're not boosting an entity's advertising power and thereby its incentive to promote harmful stuff. I think it is bad for your brain to read in that format and to pay attention to boosts and likes, though. Some people only post there, though, so I have dipped my toe in. -

I thought doing a hazmat game for 7DRL this year. Putting aside that I only finish making the game about 12.5% of the time when I do these things, I don’t think I want to do that.Comments
I used to be really into games where you’re constantly thinking about staving off death, but I realized that now that sounds very tiring. -
This was good snow. It was wet enough that it didn’t scatter when shoveled, yet not heavy when scooped up. (So far, my back and hips feel OK.) And it was moldable enough that the guy played in it for two hours.Comments
This February break, we didn’t want to go anywhere because we just went to New York. However, we also couldn’t come up with outside things to do here. So, most days, the guy read books, played his thirty minutes of Yoshi’s Crafted World each day, and played with Legos. He also cleaned his room because Katt made him do that.
At this point, he’s kind of an easy kid in that he never needs to be entertained. But sometimes I worry because what about Development? There’s the whole social thing where he doesn’t care about playing with kids outside of school, which we do about as much as we can with.
But that aside, shouldn’t he be doing things to develop, like Mitchel Resnick says kids should? Most of what he does is a form of consumption.
Probably, but also kids gotta spend time being happy. Not knowing what the balance should be between those two things, we just kind of leave it to chance. So, I’m glad it snowed and that he agreed to do some woodworking for extra video game time.
We can now put a big ✔ next to Had Experiences for this February break. -

It’s 2/23/2023, at least in the US. Numerologically, that’s huge! Then again, I think every number is special in numerology.Comments
In related news, here what I wrote down in my “things to do today” notebook so far: “2/23/2023”. -
I guess there is a long-running Japanese reality TV series in which 2-4 year olds go running errands on their own. This kind of explains Pokémon.Comments

I looked at some Mastodon instances, and they all made me tired. I think that's just the nature of Twitter-like things.Comments

I got my nephew's birthday present, fixed my keyboard's thumb key, and scheduled D&D. It's a life tasks rampage today!Comments

My nephew is turning 11, and he is into sports and Pokémon. I don't know that much else about his interests! It is a common Uncle Situation.Comments
I could find Pokémon or European football gifts that he wouldn't already have, so I got him a portable Bluetooth speaker. A weird thing to land on. (I spent a lot of time considering some board games, but you not only have to be into board games for those to work, but your friends have to as well.)
Anyway, I continue to stumble through life in this manner.
Uncle Situation would be a decent wrestler name, I think. -

Pilling Bonus Cat isn’t as tough as I thought it would be. His attitude about it is “argh whatever.” The real cost is the added logistical constraint that he must have his pills twice a day, an hour before he eats.Comments

Thank you for loving Firefox
No. This kind of software messaging needs to stop. Just be real and make stuff that does what it says it's going to do!

China beats Tesla to Nigeria’s lithium richesComments
“Our new mining policy demands that you add some value to raw mineral ores, including lithium, before you export to create jobs and build industries,” Adeyemi said. “They don’t have to turn ores into finished goods. We are only asking them to add some value before exporting.”
That seems like a really low bar. Which I guess Tesla didn’t even want to hit. I wonder if Musk thought Nigeria would be honored to even talk to Tesla. -
I’m not one of the Great Mixers of our time. When I have headphones on, I turn the sub-250 Hz frequencies down on a lot of tracks. Then, I take the headphones off and listen to the mix monitors and turn those all back up.Comments
