After seeing the buzz that Rick and Morty’s creator is terrible, I feel validated for not getting around to seeing it.Comments
I posted this in a Slack:
It’s kinda nice when you’re told “you should check out Community”, then you say, I should, but procrastinate on it, then do the same for Rick and Morty, and enough time passes that you don’t have to watch those things anymore.
The Lao Tzu would probably advise this:That which is high
Will eventually be low
That which is a show that Must Be Watched
Will eventually be a show that Must Not Be Watched
The sage just plays the same video game over and over, seeking no other media -
16 burpees (stopped because I felt something weird in my left back upper hip thing — IT band , maybe?), 20 push-ups.Comments

The guy refers to educational toys as “manipulatives.” I guess teachers’ terms stick.Comments

It is nice, though, that I've cut out the compressor node, and much of the intensity is back without distorting, at least not distorting in a way that sounds bad.Comments

I tried several new sample bases for the low part of Flooding. One of them is interesting but is more percussive than bassy. I don't think I'm really going to know if it's worthwhile until tomorrow.Comments
The effort-to-keepable-change ratio on this project keeps dropping, and the amount of time needed to listen to see if a change is good is already fairly high. Still, not as bad as Sound of the Far Future! -

The latest Heavy Hole episode has Mike Disalvo from Cryptopsy. He performed at what I think was the first death metal show I went to, with Gorguts and Oppressor at this run-down bar called Smiler Coogan’s.Comments
He has a Boston accent, which is interesting to hear in the interview, and there’s a lot of interesting facts in there, including that he joined a band that invited him via LinkedIn. -

We were out when it was -7°F, when you could kind feel your tendons freezing, then later came back out when it was +3°F, and it was noticeably better.Comments

I play brown noise throughout the day most days. The guy asked me to turn it off because he’s playing a game, but he called it “black sound”.Comments

Dwarf Fortress actually added another dev.Comments
Pathfinding isn’t even a third as important as just everyone looking around and seeing if there’s anyone nearby for them to beat up or hug.” The community figured out that building star-shaped staircases improved performance, but as Putnam says, it’s because the walls break the line of sight, so characters can’t see dwarves that are 20 steps down and aren’t forced to run the calculation to figure out whether they’re their mom or a rival.
Showing code you’ve kept secret for sixteen years has got to be mentally intense.
…
Tarn says that he’s always been afraid of somebody looking at the game’s code and finding something horrifying in there. Even though he’s not so worried about it now, he thinks he was more touchy about the idea some time ago — not just because of the prospect of dealing with different programming styles, an aspect in which, fortunately, he and Putnam have a lot in common, but also because of how argumentative people can be online.
“People can be nasty generally about those things, and I just didn’t want to deal with that,” he says. “But that’s not the vibe here, so it’s fine. It’s just going to be funny when we find stuff that Putnam doesn’t want to deal with ... We already hit something like that — there was this gnarly line, and I was just like, ‘Yeah, I must have been tired.’ I mean, you can’t be programming for a long time and expect everything to be nice-looking. It’s just not how it works. That’s why we have so many bugs in so many games, right? We’re all human.” - Comments

15 pull-ups.Comments
Those trial deadlifts and snatches that I did earlier this week didn’t ruin me, but they did affect my hips and lower back in a way that made me not want to risk doing anything resulting in me not being able to sit comfortable. Hopefully, going to the doctor soon will allow me to assess these risks to a finer degree.
