37-minute run, 12 pull-ups. I started Recurse Center today, so I wasn’t sure whether I should a long workout or use the extra time to get established. I ended up rolling with the idea that I have the least momentum right now, so I might as well.
Basically, if you have practice at being isolated, you have a shot at making it after a global supply chain collapse. But this paper doesn’t take into account sea-level rise, which will sink or engulf these islands. Except Australia.
That trip seemed like it was going to be a nightmare, but it worked out OK. My parents were went to a wedding and couldn’t be moved off of that, but we had the leeway to reschedule flights so that they could be COVID tested after the wedding before we got there.
Their tests turned out negative, so we didn’t have to be all paranoid the whole time.
We had to skip the Actual Chicago visit that we’ve wanted to do for years along with friend visits and indoor activities, but we were able to fill the days.
Mostly, the guy was excited about doing stuff with my dad, who was willing to follow his lead on everything. They did stuff like going into the basement with flashlights and moving golf balls around and doing thing with a golf ball ejecting machine.
I bought a croquet set and got a couple of games going, but it was unpopular overall.
We went to a farm with goats and the train museum. The rest of the time we ate food.
My dad has aged visibly in 1.5 years and now has to have a more or less vegetarian diet. My mom looks the same but now has osteoporosis. But she said, it’s OK, all my friends have it, too. I was unsure how that was OK.
They don’t seem to be affected in terms of mental or physical ability, though.
Finally, I have to say it is weird how in a house with no animals, you can just leave a meal out on the table, ripe for the taking.
This is called Europa, and it was mostly made on buses to and from the airport and on a grounded plane. I worked in samples recorded at my parents’ house. I mixed it with earbuds, so that might be rough. This is one of those things I didn’t have enough time to judge, but I’m glad I am keeping the composing part of the brain from rusting.
I put the Jim Lee/Todd McFarlane style of Completely Arbitrary Shading on my AD&D character, who was a dual-class thief/mage. (See, he’s got the robe, but also what is ostensibly a stealth pose.)
After knowing only Palladium, I discovered D&D by finding some Basic/Expert thing at the library, maybe in 8th grade? I didn’t know how it worked, but Dan and I created some characters anyway. I thought “hit dice” determined the amount of damage you did when you hit. Given that, I guess I just made up the number of hp, hence the first-level magic-user with 25 hp.
After watching all the steps required to just set up an appointment at the Apple Store (which included two-factor auth and redoing the process because Apple made it incompletable on Firefox), my dad commented:
Wow. It’s hard to even live. Old people should just die.
There’s a British guy on the Illinois Railway Museum’s automated phone message for some reason. 815-923-4000 Maybe the trains were so compelling he had to move to the middle of nowhere to oversee them?
