That trip seemed like it was going to be a nightmare, but it worked out OK. My parents were went to a wedding and couldn’t be moved off of that, but we had the leeway to reschedule flights so that they could be COVID tested after the wedding before we got there.
Their tests turned out negative, so we didn’t have to be all paranoid the whole time.
We had to skip the Actual Chicago visit that we’ve wanted to do for years along with friend visits and indoor activities, but we were able to fill the days.
Mostly, the guy was excited about doing stuff with my dad, who was willing to follow his lead on everything. They did stuff like going into the basement with flashlights and moving golf balls around and doing thing with a golf ball ejecting machine.
I bought a croquet set and got a couple of games going, but it was unpopular overall.
We went to a farm with goats and the train museum. The rest of the time we ate food.
My dad has aged visibly in 1.5 years and now has to have a more or less vegetarian diet. My mom looks the same but now has osteoporosis. But she said, it’s OK, all my friends have it, too. I was unsure how that was OK.
They don’t seem to be affected in terms of mental or physical ability, though.
Finally, I have to say it is weird how in a house with no animals, you can just leave a meal out on the table, ripe for the taking.
