14 pull-ups.

A former coworker once pointed out that Caterina Barbieri's Fantas resembles a '90s dance hit, but I couldn't remember what it was, so I spent 20 minutes grasping at straws. Then, I got it!

It was Alice Deejay's Better Off Alone! (Compare the moog-ish voice in Fantas to the synth horn in Better Off Alone.)

It probably was not worth that time, but I can shut off that little process in my brain now.

- Listened to a friend's music. Shared my own.
- Got a moving van parking permit.
- Booked an electrician.
- Reported some Japanese Knotweed to the City of Medford.
- Emailed a cleaner.
- Modified a fork of mdzk so that it only publishes Markdown files that you list explicitly, and started using that to publish some of the Omniwiki. Both the CSS and the notes published so far are rough, but I'm happy with this start since it's been something I've meant to do for a long time.
- Made dinner.

Probably shoulda done some packing, but eh.

10 burpees, 20 of those Superman things. Not the most intense, but it is something.

- Got permission to get rid of old Kiwi Crates, got rid of around eight of them.
- Investigated our D&D wiki losing stuff; concluded, yes, it is losing stuff.
- Called moving company again about making sure both move visits are in the contract. The guy on the phone said I could just add the date and update the contract myself so I opened up Inkscape and did it. I consider it settled!
- Got groceries.
- Worked out new job logistics with new manager. Looks like I'll start on Wednesday.
- Client C work. Hit a significant functional milestone! Discussed future pace with Client C, given job. Looks like it will be OK with them!
- Took apart shelf rack in basement.
- Made dinner.
- Went to the music programming group. There were new people! Good discussion on the work-like nature of making music, VSTs, techno culture/business. Then, I got more incremental undo working in Flooding, as well as the ability to set the length and tempo of the piece via the URL and UI.

There was some part of the day during which I felt really anxious about getting out of here and being done with the move, but for the most part, it felt balanced and good. The guy went to the first day of camp and liked it, despite throwing up from being on some weird swing, but he liked camp, which is a relief.

34-minute run, 14 pull-ups. It may be too hot to work out outside after 9 AM this entire week.

I asked the neighbor kids to hit whiffle balls in a different direction because one of them hit our window. Then, I went back in and locked the building’s front door like I always do when I go in.

I guess the grandma was outside without a key because she went crazy on our doorbell. When I went down to the front door, she got all pissy.

I cannot track this woman or whether or not she had keys. I feel this is an unreasonable thing to ask of me.

Anyway, 17 more days until we move into our own space.

I played (grown-up) D&D for the first time in four months! It was refreshing.

I retooled an area to reflect the Current Times, with high inflation and high housing demand, but may have taken it too far and ended up driving the PCs out of the area.

I came across this morning a classic module that I remembered being good and put an in-game path to that in. The players ended up going for that. Our last experience with a classic module didn’t go so well, but this one seems better designed, even by today’s standards.

Maybe I subconsciously shoved the group into the ‘80s?

- Childcare. Was able to offload much of the morning to a Tinker Crate and Pikmin. Then, we went to the pool. They weren’t letting anyone into the pool because of a chlorine leak. So, we went to the splash pad next to it. The guy had fun with some other kid there, and they went to the playground next to that. We were going to leave, but then his friend from afterschool showed up. So, they went on the splash pad, then the playground. We had been out a couple hours at this point. Then, the pool opened back up, having cleared up their chlorine issue. So, we went to the pool as originally planned. When we finally left, it was time for dinner. I had hoped to be able to go to the library and do some work, but this was a good trade-off, considering the guy does not like outside time.
- Obtained a school registration credential.
- Retooled some D&D material.

I think that’s it! I will also note that I do not have water in my ear, unlike after the last two times I went swimming.

- Childcare: Pikmin, library/park, then kid D&D with James's fourth-grader. It went well! The fourth-grader knew 5E way better than the grown-ups did and guided the guy through character creation. Then, they got alternately silly and bloodthirsty during the game. Dancing for no reason one moment, eye-stabbing the next!
- Made dinner.
- Emailed about school registration; filled in what I could.
- Sent in a health form for camp. I often find myself making pdfs out of photos of paper forms. This seems somewhat technical to be something that everyone has to do. So, how is everyone doing this?

It's nice stuff to leave on for a while.

- Childcare. Played Pikmin, Catan, went to the library/park, ate too many chips.
- Talked about job logistics.
- Talked to movers about logistics.
- Emailed pet sitter about logistics.
- Emailed color choice to flooring guy.
- Emailed buyer to offer AC.
- Filled out most of school registration form.
- Did some prep for kid D&D.

Yesterday:

- Client B work.
- Flooring guy/realtor/lawyer coordination.
- A lot of Client C work.
- Made dinner.

Update: My friend Toby tells me that an alternative response service is actually up and running in Minneapolis. So, maybe something sensible will actually happen.

So, a bunch of kids are always out front trying to rip BlueBikes out of the harnesses. Which, OK, fine.

But it's loud as fuck because they're trying to shake the bikes out of the harness, and they'll go at it for up the half an hour.

So, I went out there to ask them to stop, and after two requests, they did. But, like, wouldn't it be nice if you could call trained people without guns to talk to them for you?

Non-police alternative response teams have been discussed in Cambridge, and there was some momentum, but there isn't a number to call, and I can't find out what the status of it is. I think that the further we get away from the George Floyd murder, the less likely these alternative response forces are to actually happen.

They made a sand battery!

The developers say that their device could keep sand at 500C for several months.

Sand is pretty neat.

I really like energy storage techniques like this and just pushing water up a hill.
