- Let in the flooring guys for the final coat. Cleared up what is meant by "cash". I guess they expected paper bills, but were flexible about it. I tried to pay via Zelle, ended up writing a ye olde check.
- Found the outdoor AC condenser breaker. Flipped it — AC now works!
- Went to Medford City Hall to buy a sticker to put on the broken fridge so that it'll get taken away. Was advised to not put it on until the last second before the large item pickup truck comes because someone could walk by and rip off the sticker. I decided to take a chance on local human nature and put it on early instead of going there before 6 AM. We shall see how it goes!
- Bundled up the the things that could not be packed in the basement with Gorilla tape and duct tape and packing tape. Moved boxes and treadmills around so that things would be less confusing for the movers. Everything down there except weights is now packed.
- Called Cambridge about the moving van signs not being put up. They are now up.
- Got all the docs gathered and printed, and we got the guy registered in his new school! Those people all seem nice.
- Moved a few more awkward-to-box things in the car with Katt. We moved the kitchen island that we don't like out to the backyard to use as a temporary shed.
- Got rid a pile of broken concrete in the backyard. Half-expected to find a skull under it.
- Discussed, bought a fridge.
- Talked to a Recurse person about my experience last year. I remember way less than I thought I would!
- Went to the music programming group. I got my tempo graph thing working, and now I think I don't want it? Feels hard to draw what I want, and it seems like it might be easier to write it in code.

I guess we were so frazzled Friday night that we didn’t notice there’s a breaker outside right next to the AC’s condenser outside. I tried it out just now, and it worked!

Intense situations mess with solution searching!

After doing the modeling, I realized we actually can bring furniture in through the bigger front door, then take it down the stairs to the basement because the floor finished will be settled enough to walk on, just not enough to let furniture rest on. It’s hard to navigate all of these conditional constraints!

I just got an email announcing that a death metal band is going to be playing at what looks like a Pemberton’s-like gourmet grocery store.

I don’t know that anyone’s really in the mood to read about the death penalty, but if you are, this ProPublica article is a good one that drives home how surreal it is.

Prison officials closed the blinds and after about 20 minutes told us to leave the death chamber. Lockett died 43 minutes after the execution began.

I always forget that a game of Scrabble with the guy takes 1.5 hours. Still, he’s into word finding, which seems like it’d be frustrating with a second-grade vocabulary.

Well, I feel better today. Had an invigorating talk last night, then remembered that we bought this place because we thought it could make it what we want it to be and planned to redo the kitchen and bathrooms at the least. That we have to start further back and fix things we didn’t expect doesn’t make a big difference in the greater scheme of things, even though I hate it right now.

Also, I woke up with no sciatica or other back pain, which helps.

It was too hot to sleep in the new place without an AC or fans, so we got up and went back to the old place, and I went downstairs and brought up the 50 lb. window unit AC I’ve been avoiding this whole time because I thought I had a general back problem rather than sciatica. I’m making a lot of mistakes lately.

Well, today I worked which went well. Then, we finally closed on our house. It’s been so hot that I thought, hey, we can go sleep at the new place, which has central AC.

Well, took some stuff and went, and the AC doesn’t work.

I guess that was to be expected, but it kind of defeated me for a bit. I called some AC people, and it just wasn’t worth getting them out before Monday. The fridge wasn’t working, either. Then, the train went by, and it was louder than I remembered. I felt some serious buyer’s remorse, even though I know it wasn’t rational.

I did feel better when I walked around the neighborhood to get some paper plates and ice cream. Maybe when we come back in a few days with our stuff moved in and the floors refinished and some of this stuff fixed we’ll feel better.

I was wondering why this place was selling this chair at a $300 discount. It turns out they're shipping broken chairs or not sending anything at all, Smidgeo-style. New Jersey revoked their incorporation certificate.

Thanks to this helpful diagram with a butt in it, I now know I have sciatica, which isn’t affected by pull-ups. (Mild apparently; serious kind involves numbness!)

I finished reading Piranesi last night. That is a “unveiling the mystery of a strange world” story done right, if you're into that kind of thing.

Also, incidentally a good exploration of what's cool about innocence and what's bad.

Via Set Side B, Nintendo commissioned some fantastic Pikmin mini-movies (AKA promo trailers) a while back.

Walked a couple blocks for the sake of back recovery. It's, you know, super hot.

- Dropped off, picked up.
- Did laundry.
- Lawyer, bank communication.
- Job work. Kinda had trouble following directions on a thing, but also the directions were a bit sparse.
- Packed a box.
- Got rid of some furniture.

I feel like I should have done more, but this heat is sapping me. Also, doing a wire transfer is kind of tense. And I am a little annoyed that back recovery isn't linear. There were points at which I got tired of sitting up or standing up and had to lie down for a few minutes.
