There are so many standard D&D things that are wilder and more unbalanced than anything you’d write yourself. Possibly because you’d feel like you violate some standard if you put something in more unbalanced than something official? It’s sort of like how real events sometimes just wouldn’t fly if written into a novel.Comments

Huh, Bonus also has electrical issues: Right bundle branch block.Comments
During a right bundle branch block, the right ventricle is not directly activated by impulses travelling through the right bundle branch. The left ventricle, however, is still normally activated by the left bundle branch. These impulses are then able to travel through the myocardium of the left ventricle to the right ventricle and depolarize the right ventricle this way.
He’s using an inefficient workaround! That feels like Bonus Nature. -
A post about replacing Mapbox at the Washington Post.Comments
-“Mapbox has gotten expensive.” Mapbox killed off the formation of a union a couple years ago. I guess they could not pass the savings on.

Well, I guess it is good that we got the cardiogram for Bonus Cat. And that means we have bad news.Comments
His heart is fairly deformed, it turns out, which, as you can imagine, leads to all sorts of problems. I had to ask the vet to repeat the beginning of the list in the middle of it because I had forgotten it. Among the problems is that he has a blood pressure of 210 over something (which is partly accounted for by being stressed out by the vet, but nowhere near all of it), and this could be why he yells at night. We assumed that it was because he was bored.
The possible out that we are hoping for is that the whole heart situation is stable, despite the weirdness. If his echocardiogram in six months is the same, then maybe he has found a way. I did some pull-ups about this, and it occurs to me that his heart has always been like this, at least somewhat.
He has always been a weird cat. He used to do a lot of sudden flips, run in hot weather until he was panting, and has a hole in his ribcage. He is, as Katt says, Slightly Irregular. Now we know the irregularity extends to his heart. -

I'm listening to a $1 tape with Hall of the Mountain King on it. I've heard it a million times, but this seems to have a slight delay on the strings, which is really effective. I don't know if it's from the way it was recorded or an accidental tape artifact, but it make it the best version of the piece I've heard.Comments

Something I've noticed about Zelda: Some dungeons have nicer commutes than others. The last one I was able to get to from the starting location by going right two areas ("screens"? "rooms"?), taking the Take Any Road You Want "subway", getting out at the fairy in the forest to fill my hearts up, going back to the subway, getting out next to the Lost Hills, and then I'm there!Comments
There's other dungeons that are nowhere near subway stops or whistle tornado locations.
In all of my previous Zelda runs, I had not thought about commuting at all. -
Today in aging: I played Zelda last night while lying on the couch with my head propped up against the end of the couch. (We got through the Level-4 dungeon in the second quest!) Now my collarbone area is sore? Not cool!Comments

We got a used Big Nate activity book, which was in good shape only had about 5% of the activities completed. The previous owner, Frederick L., wrote his name in it.Comments
The guy keeps talking about how Frederick L. did everything wrong, and how Frederick L. must have been a really little kid or someone that does not actually know Big Nate. He has been using double-sided tape to stick blank paper over the places in which Frederick L. wrote in pen.
This feels exactly like inheriting code and looking through the former authors’ commits. I’ve had my Frederick L.s, and no doubt, I have been Frederick L. to plenty of people. -

A feature on Demilich.Comments
Back in the ’90s, I tried to play other people’s riffs, and on the first demo, I kind of copied stuff. And that’s why it quickly switched from the demo to Nespithe within one and a half years, because I let myself in the music. It’s very hard for me to do anything else; it’s like, I cannot keep this simple or keep this straightforward, or according to the laws of music. I just have to do something wrong.
I am all for Demilich finally getting their due. And Antti actually answers his emails and answers them honestly!
I’ve been thinking about that a lot: It’s about my brain. Especially now that one and a half years ago I got an ADHD diagnosis, and then, well, autism spectrum disorder—not a diagnosis, but it’s pretty clear. -
Bonus Cat is very active lately, which makes me want to cancel his echocardiogram because it's logistically difficult, and he hates that stuff. But I guess we should have this information.Comments

Some deep post-drop off insights:Comments
- It’s way easier to walk in Medford than in Manhattan. You do have to watch out at street crossings, but you can otherwise let your guard down. You don’t have to get your kid out of the way of fast-moving oncomers most of the time.
- The dog poo on the corner finally got cleaned up! It’s been there for over a month. Was it a person? Was it nature? Either way, It Got Better.
- A contractor’s van has been parked in front of the neighbors’ house for the last few days. It has no text on it, just an icon and a QR code. I finally broke down and scanned the QR code. It decodes to URL with a domain whose registration has lapsed.
- The guy has gotten really good at the morning. He gets dressed, gets his whole breakfast eaten, brushes his teeth, gets his shoes tied on time without us having to get on him about it now. With extra reading time to spare. All of these days of getting better at stuff are cool. I need to have some of those, myself. - Comments

14 pull-ups. Aaaah, I guess I should figure out some safe lower body stuff until physical therapy. Squats? Walking?Comments

Heh, I wrote an email response to a blog post assuming I'd be able to find the author's email, but I can't, so I just pasted this long thing into a contact form, like the kind on a plumber's site. Felt awkward!Comments

I got a referral to physical therapy at my doctor’s appointment. I thought I’d put off leg/back-related workouts until then, but I called to set it up today, and it’s not going to happen for three weeks. Which, of course. Nothing can be done in less than three weeks.Comments

Dandruff is caused by a fungus! So, I’ve got head fungus, but I am treating it with a special shampoo. Do not persecute me. I’m still a human being.Comments

Our trips always seem to end hard. The guy threw up on the train, and then it was delayed for a while (an hour?) because another train ran over a person. By the time we were on the T back to Alewife I was mildly nauseous.Comments
All that said, good trip overall, and the ending (at least for us, not for the train amputee 😬) wasn’t as bad as our various trips that ended in brutal flight delays.
