Video shows Phoenix police burning man during arrest: ‘Like acid on my skin’Comments
Kenyon had been burned – severely burned – on the hot city pavement. Medical records indicate he suffered third-degree burns, and hospital photos show deep burn scars and skin peeled off across his body. Kenyon has not been charged with a crime and a police spokesperson confirmed he was not the suspect that officers were seeking as part of a theft investigation.
Phoenix sounds like a nightmare.
…
It’s not the first time residents in the city have accused police of burning them on the pavement. In 2019, Phoenix police department officers held Roniah Trotter, then 18, on hot pavement on a 113F day, leaving her with second-degree burns. Earlier that year, a 28-year-old man died in police custody after officers held him down on hot asphalt for several minutes. -
Elon Musk is pushing out ads that impersonate Harris with “outrageous” liberal policies. At a glance, the policies look fine to me, but the idea is that they’re things she hasn’t said that are too far left for moderates.Comments
Here’s a far left policy that would instantly make the world a better place: No one can have more than $100 million. If you go over, that all goes to the government.
Oh, that means that like 50 people are no longer motivated to do whatever (probably horrible) things they do to accumulate wealth? What a shame.
Elon might actually have to give something up to do things like outright mislead people and buy votes if we did this, though. -
Katt got horseradish and chives chips. As you might expect, they’re incredibly good. Horseradish power!Comments

Israel’s parliament has voted to ban the UN relief and works agency (Unrwa) from the country within 90 days, in defiance of US and other international pressure to maintain the largest provider of humanitarian assistance to the country’s Palestinian population.
Now it's an attempt at total extermination that isn't even trying to hide itself.
In a 92-10 vote late on Monday, the Knesset banned the agency, which operates in Israel according to a 1967 treaty, from conducting “any activity” or providing any service inside Israel, including the areas of annexed East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank. -
There was a recent election in Georgia (the country), and the pro-Russia right wing party won. There's rigging accusations. I have no idea how valid they are. The article is worth a scan just to take in how complex of a situation it is.Comments
Looking forward to our own extremely complex and contentious election day! -

At the guy’s judo workout, the sensei said “You guys have to take on challenges!”Comments
I automatically said “Challenges!” quietly, which is kind of a normal thing to say in our house, but not anywhere else. Some parent looked over at me. -
Blockbench seems pretty cool. It's a low-poly 3D editor, and the low-poly part both makes it more accessible and easier to run in the browser. Which makes it more accessible!Comments

Great work, Spotify!Comments
Excellent job funding this guy and getting this information out there!“I want to talk about 2020 because you said over and over again that you were robbed in 2020,” Mr. Rogan said, offering Mr. Trump a platform to repeat his debunked claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election and the lie that he won that year. “How do you think you were robbed? Everybody always cuts you off.”
Mr. Trump lamented that “the judges didn’t have what it took to turn over an election” and repeated a few false claims, suggested that mail-in ballots were not secure and said that Democrats had “used Covid to cheat” in 2020.
Mr. Rogan seemed to back Mr. Trump’s questioning of election processes, at one point likening those who raised concerns over elections to those who questioned coronavirus vaccines.
“You get labeled an election denier,” Mr. Rogan said. “It’s like being labeled an anti-vaxxer if you question some of the health consequences that people have from the Covid-19 shots.”
Anyone reading this that works at Spotify: This has serious consequences beyond whether or not you get promoted at your job or even if you have a job. Hit me up if you need clarification. -

Started the day with election news, which sucked, but now I’ve done my junior calisthenics and can make a break from it. Gonna watch Masato Sakurai talk about games in a strangely compelling formal way.Comments

In private speeches delivered in 2023 and 2024, Russell Vought, who served as Trump’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, described his work crafting legal justifications so that military leaders or government lawyers would not stop Trump’s executive actions.
Don’t forget to vote if you haven’t already.
…
“We want to be able to shut down the riots and not have the legal community or the defense community come in and say, ‘That’s an inappropriate use of what you’re trying to do,’” he said. Vought held up the summer 2020 unrest following George Floyd’s murder as an example of when Trump ought to have had the ability to deploy the armed forces but was stymied. -
On This Day (CW: gross picture) about the myth of the fish that swims up a human’s urine stream into the urethra that the Straight Dope fell for:Comments
In other words: that’s upstream, and this isn’t an Atlantic salmon leaping waterfalls to return to its breeding grounds. Also, even if the urethra is dilated because you’ve been putting it off for too long and are now pissing like a horse, this fish’s head is over a centimetre wide. It’s not getting in there, and even if it tries, you’re going to see the little bastard coming. I suspect the Straight Dope report either jumped the gun or didn’t get its facts right, and that the scientists investigated Dr. Samad’s case and… were not altogether convinced.

I got new screws, but they broke. I was putting them in the outermost holes in the outlet plate, which bowed the screws. I should have put them in the ones slightly closer to the middle, which are more closely aligned to the holes in the electrical box.Comments
Well, now I know. Unfortunately, there’s a piece of screw stuck in the electrical box, so an electrician’s going to have to be paid. -

I started taking the wood paneling off that walls again. I put on safety glasses and thought, is this really necessary? Ten minutes later, I yanked a panel, and a nail shot right into the safety glasses.Comments

Two unexpected stressors this morning, one entirely my own fault!Comments
1. They were short on teachers at Math Circle, so they asked me to take a table. A) It was hard to hear anyone because twenty kids were constantly talking. B) I had no idea how to reply kids that would just reject the premise of the problems. "OK, just hang out then"? C) One kid tried to tie my arm up with a string, poked at me with a pencil, and went under a table. (Also, possibly, he let one go? The smell was not great.) Suffice to say, I could get him to engage with the problems.
Every time I looked over at the guy's table, everyone was just discussing and doing the problems, without any poking or hiding. Was I just unlucky? And/or do I just not have enough charisma?
2. On the drive back, I was thinking about how we couldn't do D&D on the first weekend I thought of because we were going to be in North Carolina. Then, I realized that the judo tournament (with a significant number of competitors outside of the dojo) was also that weekend. I thought about just skipping it, but it would take a lot of wind out of the guy's sails. We're lucky that he's excited to compete.
We did get the flight moved (albeit to a 6 AM flight back, but what can you do), but of course, jetblue.com sucks, and when you log in as they ask you, it looks like it loses the flight reschedule and dumps you back to the home page. If you do happen to try clicking on Manage Flights, your rescheduling state is restored. -
Trump is set to sit down with Rogan on "The Joe Rogan Experience" on FridayComments
Well, that’s not good. If you’re reading this, and you still work at Spotify, please try to stop this. I know it’s futile to ask for fact-checking edits, so you’re going to but you can at least make it cost them something by refusing to work. Obviously easier said than done, but if I was there, I’d get fired over this.
