People are still getting into crypto in the UK.Comments
The United Kingdom is experiencing a dramatic outbreak—unprecedented in scale and magnitude—of diarrheal illnesses from the intestinal parasite, Cryptosporidium, aka Crypto.
...
The most common route of infection is recreational waters. Crypto oocysts are extremely tolerant to chlorine. In properly chlorinated pool water, Crypto can live for more than a full week. When an infected or recently sick swimmer takes a dip, oocysts can enter the pool. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bluntly puts it: germs can enter the water "from small amounts of poop rinsing off swimmers’ butts." -
China is going after Foxconn.Comments
“If the Chinese Communist party regime were to say, ‘If you don’t listen to me, I’ll confiscate your assets from Foxconn’, I would say: ‘Yes, please do it!’ I cannot follow their orders, I won’t be threatened,” Gou said, insisting his business interests would not make him beholden to China.
I don't know what to think of this. Do they really not needs Foxconn now?
Now, Beijing has called his bluff on that boast. Tax inspectors have descended on Foxconn subsidiaries in two Chinese provinces and are investigating land use by group companies in two others, in a co-ordinated large-scale probe that Taiwanese executives and government officials say smacks of a politically motivated crackdown.
I guess the one thing I can definitively say is: General Gou is not chicken. -

The escitalopram has made me sleep at least nine hours a night and has kept me feeling drowsy until 2 PM. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence, but I realized it’s been five days in a row after talking to the doctor.Comments
In some ways, it’s kinda nice, but I’m going to half dosage so I can get back to trying to get at least some things done. - Comments

When I've got side hip trouble (piriformis? IT band?), I'm never sure if sitting or standing is better for it. You'd think standing because then everything is at least straight, but I still feel it. But I also feel it sitting, so I think I can't quite count on that.Comments

I stumbled on this episode of Worst Asian Pod, which I haven’t heard before. The first fifteen minutes is the two hosts talking about how it’s their two-year podcast anniversary.Comments
The rest of it is one host dressing down the other one for never showing up on time. I found this surprisingly funny! Maybe it’s my weird sometimes-enjoyment of cruelty that made me like Ricky Gervais yelling at Karl Pilkington. Or me relating to projects not going well or people not showing up to things. Whatever it is, it’s just gentle enough to be non-toxic, so maybe I’ll check out more of this one guy yelling at another guy stuff. -
The Flamingo simulations are not only the largest but also the most all-encompassing simulations of the universe, from 13.75 billion years ago to today.Comments
Led by Joop Schaye (Leiden Observatory, The Netherlands), the international Flamingo team simulated the evolution within an expanding volume of space — a cube with sides 10 billion light-years long. In this volume, they traced the gravitational clumping of no less than 300 billion particles, each with the mass of some 130 million solar masses, equivalent to an average dwarf galaxy.
…
The simulations required a total of more than 50 million hours of computer time, distributed over the 30,000 processors that make up the DiRAC-COSMA8 supercomputer at Durham University in the UK. The results are published today in three papers in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. -
Today’s lifehack: Folding the laundry as you take it out of the dryer. It doesn’t take up space on wherever you normally dump clean laundry that way, which is pretty minor. But it is also slightly more motivating because it’s warm.Comments

Still kinda blown away that the original Mario theme starts with 9th and 7th chords. A lot of NES music from that time had a kind of “baseball” or “carnival” kind of vibe, and I wondered if it was just the syncopation that made the Mario theme un-cheesy. Turns out to be the harmony, too.Comments

Wow. A Bandcamp manager is publicly losing his mind.Comments
A senior Bandcamp manager, J. Edward Keyes, the company’s editorial director, publicly opposed his coworkers’ decision to unionize in May, saying that they are “privileged tech workers cosplaying as Amazon warehouse workers," according to Keyes’ Instagram posts viewed by 404 Media.
Or I guess has been since May. What a weird thing for a manager to say publicly, even if you hate the union. Posting pictures of yourself making faces while doing so seems even more unhinged.
"There is a strong piece in white-collar tech workers who make north of 70k a year appropriating the language of the legitimately oppressed for anyone with the guts to write it," Keyes wrote in an Instagram stories post in May, shortly after Bandcamp workers voted 31 - 7, overwhelmingly in favor of forming a union. "TL;DR: Fuuuuuck Bandcamp United." -
Well, I looked at job on LinkedIn again and was disappointed again. I gotta remember not to bother next week.Comments
