I found this Colin Marston interview interesting not because he said anything surprising but because he's so terse in pro messages and online writing that I assumed he intended to be a mysterious unknown force. I read What It Is Like to Be a Bat?, and I did not get it. I think the main idea is that we can’t define consciousness or even explain how our own consciousness comes from physical processes, so we need to do that first before we can figure what things have consciousness. This essay is considered a Big Deal in philosophy, so I feel there should be more to it, and I’m missing that.Comments

I still have rental alerts on from last summer in which it looked like we might have to rent. This 3-bedroom in Acton costs $5000/month. This is a peak price (though there was another that was $5700), but the other listing from my morbid email alert are all between 3 and 5K lately. There are a lot of 2-bedrooms that are around 2K, though these are often 750 sq. ft.Comments
For reference, Acton is a fairly rural town about 25 miles from Boston, though it does have highly-ranked school system. -

It’s weird that when software has search, people will refer to it as the “search function.” But they won’t refer to any other feature that way. They don’t use the “share function” or the “photo function.” That sounds like fictional tech talk from the ‘80s.Comments
