I read What It Is Like to Be a Bat?, and I did not get it. I think the main idea is that we can’t define consciousness or even explain how our own consciousness comes from physical processes, so we need to do that first before we can figure what things have consciousness. This essay is considered a Big Deal in philosophy, so I feel there should be more to it, and I’m missing that.
