This sounds good, but it’s a lot of string skipping on guitar. There’s a few points at which the next notes is three strings away no matter what position you play it at. I never play anything with string skipping unless I’m finger picking, so this is like jumping between the tips of tiny ice poles.

I'm in a PTO Zoom meeting because I figure I should know what it's like. It's mostly fundraising and that is hard for me to get into.

At one point, someone was talking about what sounded like X-COM, but it turned out that means "executive committee".

Five incidental life tasks of varying magnitudes came up today. I probably should come up have a better name for these. They are issues related to day-to-day life but also long-term life decisions. If you're playing some Sims-type life simulator, these tasks are probably what you do for the entire game.

However, they feel the opposite of "living the life." Doing nothing but these tasks and decisions would make for a terrible life.

Fence gate is busted again. That wood just keeps on warping. I emailed the fence guys immediately because I didn’t want it to end up in my task sheet. That’s possibly a not-ideal incentive, but it’s not the worst.

In related news, getting a new float valve did not fix our Instant Pot.

I called the auto mechanic I usually go to, and he said he’s just doing paperwork today. It’s weird, but that made me realize he’s the living dream: Having a way of earning a living that lets you not constantly funnel in work. The guy is comfortable (in a sense) turning down because he knows he’ll get enough, and he doesn’t have to constantly farm opportunities.

Some gas company guys came by to say "we have to replace your outside gas line but to do so we may have to rip apart your basement ceiling." Once again, National Grid, don't try to make us make decisions like that on the spot.

So far, my plan to use only my old laptop to scroll through RSS, Zulip, and Mastodon is working pretty well. I don't do it as often (I was off for about three days without realizing it), and when I do, I realize reading a ton of tiny bits shuffled together is just not satisfying, even if you do get a lot of Items of Content.

We'll see how long it lasts.
