Consider how different defending an ethical theory will have to be from defending a scientific one. In choosing between scientific theories, we can appeal to empirical evidence. We can do experiments, testing predictions against observation. But none of this seems available in ethics. Imagine trying to do an experiment to test some fundamental moral claim, for exam-ple, that killing is wrong. Suppose I grab someone off the street, stab him in the chest, and watch him die. What am I looking for? What kind of observation will support (or undermine) the claim that killing is wrong? (Would it help if I gathered other observers as well?)

We entered Legoland for the first time in four years. It’s $35/person! Also, they still have that short single melody loop playing in several areas.Comments
Thirty minutes later, the guy decided he had outgrown it, and we left. (They didn’t even have the Lego Mario set he wanted.)
I think that’s better than taking two hours to realize you’re not having fun. Also, we never have to go again, and we could not have reached that state without going one last time. -
It doesn't seem to be stated explicitly anywhere I can find, but SVG masks don't work on lines rendered with strokes. They work on elements rendered with fills. `clip-path`s work on stroke-rendered elements like lines (and presumably paths or rects without fills).Comments

Social History Narrative
Conjugate that to past tense and put it on my tombstone!

The doctor recommended a wheel to roll my spine on. If I wasn't told about this by a doctor, I would have thought this was a TikTok trend and/or a scam.Comments

I know old GoPros are pretty hard to use as webcams. (And that's not what they're designed for, so that's fair.) So, I checked a Hero 8 Black out from the library. That also involves installing user-made software that may not work!Comments

After posting about Obscura, I watched a bookmarked video and realized Gorguts had played a lot of that material in 1995 at the Thirsty Whale, four years before I saw them and three years before the album even came out. They definitely sold it. The first Obscura song starts about nine minutes into the set, and people are still moshing. A few people even get on stage. Gorguts says nothing about how it is completely different from the albums the audience has heard from them. They just say “from the new album”.Comments
There’s definitely a lot more headbanging than when they
performed in 2013 at Saint Vitus, though. -
I didn’t do any research or programming on business night because I had to work late Wednesday, but I did read Big Enough, which I thought was about starting a lifestyle business (or at least a non-startup).Comments
To save you time if you think that: It’s not that. It’s sort of a business biography about the author’s business, along with “life lessons”.
They’re not ones that are disagreeable. Sure, you should live your values, not get into business that is more work than you want it to be, and own as much intellectual property as you can. This was not news to me.
I think this may have been intended to inspire people who want to start a business but don’t know about small scale businesses. And of course, to sell itself. -

I had lunch with a friend who’s apparently just gonna up and go to Germany for a month. Being a person with a kid and cats, I can’t do nifty things like that.Comments
One thing I can do, though, is think about the fourth dimension each day for a month. A vacation of the mind. I don’t know when 4D month is going to be, but it might be September. -

Doctor appointment over. I guess it is typical for a 46-year-old to take this long to recover from a back injury. It can take a year. If you are in your forties, my advice is to never be injured!Comments
I did get wacky device recommendations, though, like a massage gun or a back wheel. -

I was thinking, what if I made an offer to sell people "100 lbs. of nuts for $476"? I think there, $476 just looks really large.Comments
So what about "496 lbs. of nuts for $2201"? The numerals are lower in the price, but now we've crossed over into four digits. But in ounces, that's 7,936. "7936 oz. of peanuts for $2201!" might attract someone that wants peanuts "for life."
I might make a Google Ad for this.
(Don't worry, I'm not actually going to grift any peanut lovers.) -

I got the 94. It left four minutes before trackthet.com said would. Mildly disturbing!Comments

"GitHub" is still the official spelling but "Github" looks more correct to me at this point.Comments

If this train makes it from Porter to Davis in one minute, I can catch the 94 and not have to wait a couple hours for the next one.Comments
I guess I will have to wait a couple hours.
