Well, I got my first piece of Bandcamp spam. Is this the beginning of the end?Comments
It does have a long way to catch up to SoundCloud, at which every new song posted instantly gets likes from “Buy new followers” bots with hott chix profile pictures. -

I decided to skip bringing the Moonlander on this trip and did some non-ergonomic typing last night directly on the laptop.Comments
Yup, today, my wrist and abductor digiti minimi hurts. -
When I visited my parents in June, I thought their house was too humid and got concerned that it would get mold. Their dehumidifier wasn’t working. So, I thought I should get them a new dehumidifier, but I kept forgetting to do it.Comments
It turned out they got one themselves without me pointing out it was too humid. I guess I’m not the only one who notices things? -

13 pull-ups, 4 reverse grip pull-ups. Was tempted to run because the day’s been such a drag, but I can’t risk having a messed up back while traveling.Comments

I asked the co-chair of the W3C Audio Working Group (he was doing a Q&A in his capacity as some manager at Google's web audio group) about why nothing in an audio graph can be reused. The standard way to do things is to create a new audio graph every time you want to generate a "new sound" (more or less) and trash the old ones. All of the source nodes (the starting points of the graphs), like AudioBufferSourceNode and Oscillator can only be started once.Comments
An AudioBufferSourceNode can only be played once; after each call to start(), you have to create a new node if you want to play the same sound again. Fortunately, these nodes are very inexpensive to create, and the actual AudioBuffers can be reused for multiple plays of the sound. Indeed, you can use these nodes in a "fire and forget" manner: create the node, call start() to begin playing the sound, and don't even bother to hold a reference to it. It will automatically be garbage-collected at an appropriate time, which won't be until sometime after the sound has finished playing.
His answer is that, while you construct audio graphs on the main thread, they go to an audio rendering thread once you start it. So, that graph is being used to produce sound, and it's implied that it's not worrying about syncing things back to the graph on the main thread. The graph on the main thread is basically dead? He said "there's no introspection on the audio graph".
What makes this confusing is I know that there is some introspection. For example, you can read an AudioBufferSourceNode's detune value and see it change (if you've set something up to alter it over time).
So…I do not know what's up, but I gotta get back to my job. -
OK, I do not have covid — just regular sniffles. Also, an OK back.Comments
I had a meeting which was like How Did I Get Myself Into Another Pointless and Hopeless Work Situation, Part 106.

Fact learned today via Alex: Mormons are forbidden to drink coffee! More specifically, hot drinks.Comments
In 1833, Church prophet Joseph Smith received a revelation from God regarding health, known as the Word of Wisdom. This revelation advises which foods and drink are good for the body and which substances should be avoided. It lists "hot drinks" as one of the harmful substances, saying they are "not for the body or belly." (see Doctrine and Covenants 89:9) Church leaders have explained "hot drinks," means both coffee and tea (excluding herbal teas).
You’d think this would mean iced coffee would be OK, but no.
That article says that 35% of Mormons drink coffee anyway, so I guess reaching the highest levels of Mormonism aren’t really worth it for a lot of people. -

Former tantric sex coach and Donald Trump admirer Javier Milei has said he thinks the climate crisis is ‘a socialist lie’Comments
Milei, a Donald Trump-like character at first dismissed as a daytime television buffoon by the political establishment, is well positioned to win Argentina’s presidency.
ok
Out on the street, Milei fanatics waved the yellow Gadsden flag of the US extreme right, bearing a black rattlesnake on a yellow background and the “Don’t tread on me” slogan that is a regular feature at his rallies.
Milei said: “This election will not only put an end to Kirchnerism, but also to the parasitic, larcenous, useless caste that is sinking the country.” As has become his custom, he dedicated the victory to his dead dog Conan and three surviving dogs. -

I’m glad I got Sleep Funnels out before Sleep Tones, which is this high-powered ambient album put out by people who actually have connections to critics. Based on the preview track, they’re probably very different (their album is very much *for* sleep rather than *about*), but at a glance, Sleep Tones looks like a beefed up version of Sleep Funnels.Comments
I’d like to think I’d still put it out if I went second, but it would have been discouraging. -
I found some right-day-old kung pao in the fridge. It’s actually great.Comments
