At today's business night, three other people showed up! Someone was working on a VR thing, another person on an app, and another seemed to actually know how to find a market.Comments
Me? I wrote a script that will log in to Society6, hoping to be able to automate uploading images to it, but I got my account locked while working on that first part.
Whether or not it's worth my time to do this is debatable, but at least I did a thing to work toward not having my income entirely dependent on jobs (I may have worn out my job tolerance over the course of twenty-four years). -
Did this email just dislodge itself from a queue it entered in 2022?Comments
Magic Eden is a Multi-Chain NFT Platform pushing boundaries on Solana, Ethereum, Polygon, and Bitcoin! The goal is for Magic Eden to be the default destination for creators and collectors on Web3. As the company continues to grow rapidly, we are looking for visionaries to join the team and take development efforts to the next level. That's where you come in!
They need to find and replace “blockchain” with “AI”. -
I was thinking the other day about how “lovers” is considered a funny way to refer to people in a romantic relationship (from the point of view of me and other Americans, who think it sounds like a sex thing for no real reason), but it’s common in Europe.Comments
Or is it?! I’m not sure where I got that from.
However, I just heard a Greek anthropologist say “lovers” around 27:00 in this episode of Hidden Brain (which is just OK so far). So there it is. People are lovers, at least in Greece! -

I did stuff good for my back yesterday, including not running for quite a while, and my back is stiff today? Though maybe I did more office chair sitting than usual.Comments

The new Beavis and Butt-head reboot seems pretty good so far. Beavis going on about how Butt-head’s weird for not pooping in the shower was excellent.Comments
Season 2 of The Bear, OTOH, is trying to do way too much and seems ungrounded now, two episodes in. -

Bonus Cat had a couple of days (June 29-30) in which he didn't get up for anything except for meals. Now, he's up and about and looking at things.Comments
Those days coincide with the air quality index hitting 91. Lower AQI is better. Today, it's 36. 51-100 mean "there may be a risk for some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution." Is Bonus Cat unusually sensitive to air pollution?
It was also muggier on those days. No conclusions are apparent!
He did have some chicken last night, though. -
It is super hard to keep a video game company going, and you hear about them going down, big and small, almost always because they ran out of money. Zachtronics is the rare small game company that found a niche to survive in, doing something that was genuinely original that they liked.Comments
But they’re shutting down because they’re bored. So, that’s yet another way that you can be got. -
I watched this linear algebra video, and at the end, it said ©2000, and I was like, oh man, is this guy dead?Comments
Gilbert Strang is alive, but retired. -

I gave the cats chunks of chicken left over from the broth. Bonus went to town. Wily licked one, then looked up, probably expected a manufactured treat.Comments

Aw dag it's late. I've returned to working in the basement, and there are fewer time signals in here.Comments

I had to Electronify a web app (that is, change a web app into a desktop app (that is actually a web app running locally)). That web app loads sample files, and it got too annoying to have to reload them every time the page reloaded. There is a FileSystemFileHandle API in the browser, but it won't let you (for good reason) just get what's at a path (like '/home/you/stems/sound.mp3'), so it won't help out with automatically loading files when you start or restart the app. So, Electron.Comments
Converting to Electron is not so bad these days. It seems like the progress on the big problems is small, but progress on small problems is big. -

Sven Andersson (farmworker) (1668–1691) was a Swedish farmhand from Vättle in Västergötland, who was executed for having sexual intercourse with a bergrå (a mountain-nymph; a mythical female creature of the mountain).[1]

I had to fix many different things to get the screenshot service for the bot emails going again. (Root cause: upgrading Ubuntu got rid of dependencies needed by Playwright.)Comments
I ended up upgrading Playwright in webimage and upgrading from Node 12 to 18 on the VPS. So far all three persistent Node services seem OK? Assuming this post actually goes through. -
