Well, I’m gonna be on the antidepressants now. I think my depression (by which I mean having trouble doing things I don’t like) is caused by external factors, rather than some kind of body-driven state change. The doctor also thought so.

Still, those external factors aren’t going to change, and the next several years are going to be rough. If you’re gonna be in a dystopia, you gotta dystopiate.

A mention of a siesta in thecatheter story makes me wonder: Did the hospital have a literal siesta hour in which the staff took a nap? Or is this a translation of a German source (e.g. https://sci-hub.st/10.1055/s-2002-34642) that was referring to a general afternoon break time?

Forssmann was able to fend off Romeis with ‘a few kicks on the shin’.

At music programming today, I talked to someone making a Lisp music programming language in Rust, and she mentioned it's harder to make a visualization based on audio than to make audio for a visualization. I think this is true, and it's why I've stalled on Flooding for so long.

But tonight I came up with some sketches that I'm at least willing to try implementing. I also emailed someone about doing the voice work. I am recommitting to getting this out in 2023.

Got the Covid and flu shots. I dream of the day where there will be a big automated soda fountain style machine where you just hit a bunch of buttons and get a mix of the various vaccines in your shot. Covid, flu, chicken pox, tetanus what have you.

Then, you could go to next machine and get some kind of cool customized hat.

If no events happen, no time happens. Time does not happen for a photon because no signal is fast enough to reach it, so it does not "know" about any events happening.

I have to wonder, though, what about the case in which two photons are directed at each other and collide? What are the implications of that? Let me know if you know!

I finally found a self-service gas station near our house.

I hate full-service gas stations for many reasons! But Google Maps labeling about full- or self-service is often wrong, so I had search trouble. Now perhaps a new era will begin.

Social media is a less flashy threat than LLMs right now, but it's still doing its classic disinformation thing.
The referendum, on whether to set up a body to advise Parliament on Aboriginal issues, has bitterly divided Australia and given rise to a slew of baseless claims on social media, including that the advisory body could seize property or land, or residents would be required to pay rent to Indigenous people if the referendum passed.
Please don't do New Zealand until the end. That's my fantasy escape country that I'll never go to.

I’ve had five pounds of frozen wings for well over a year, so I decided to cook them today. I’m doing the thing where you deep fry them then freeze them before doing the final fry and flavoring, so I’ll still have almost five pounds of frozen wings, but they’ll be usable without have to do a Big Cook.

I probably should be figuring out what to cut out of my life, but this is just more chill.

Handmaid’s Tale handmaids?

Honk! is very neat, but reminds me of two things:

1. When kids show up with very cool Halloween costumes, but you have no idea what they are.

2. When musicians think they’re making a political change, then they find out that millions of Rage Against the Machine fans are shocked that they don’t like Trump.

This is different in that the overall vibe does come off, so it is worth being a cause-driven event! I just have no idea what half of the individual causes are. There is also something to be said to seeing weird things you don’t understand.
