Still kinda blown away that the original Mario theme starts with 9th and 7th chords. A lot of NES music from that time had a kind of “baseball” or “carnival” kind of vibe, and I wondered if it was just the syncopation that made the Mario theme un-cheesy. Turns out to be the harmony, too.
