I checked out a fancy studfinder, the Tavool Wall Scanner (TH510), from the library. It was accurate and not hard to interpret! The wood studs it found were indeed there.Comments
It also said it found some metal studs, but I did not verify. I’m not even sure how I would. Seems bad to drill into metal. -

In a new study published in the journal Psychological Medicine, researchers from the same lab used the ghostly finger setup to probe another kind of hallucination: hearing voices. They found that volunteers were more likely to report hearing a voice when there was a lag between the push of the button and the rod’s touch than when there was no delay. -

I ripped To Mega Therion from CD last week. I now think it might be better than Morbid Tales. It does not have monster riffs like the ones from Procreation of the Wicked and Dethroned Emperor, but the feel and flow are really good.Comments

I finished Death by Shelly Kagan. It was very readable, but I don’t think I got much out of it. I kept feeling like something interesting was around the corner, but it was predictable (though reasonable and thorough) thinking about ideas around death. The most interesting chapter was about what counts as the continuation of a living person — all the 1000-year old Ship of Theseus, cloning personalities kind of stuff.Comments
The weakness in the book is around the assertion that it’s better to exist (assuming you have a life that’s more good than it is bad) than to not exist. I think he even says the two situations are not comparable but then says it’s better to exist.
Even though I wasn’t blown away, it was nice to spend a little time thinking about this kind of thing in a structured way. -
