Apple is trying to get people to be happy with less RAM.Comments
Two years ago, I got a 14” MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro processor and 16 GB of RAM. I was told by lots of people that “16 GB is enough,” that “RAM works differently on Apple Silicon,” and that the M-series processors are so good that RAM is less important than ever.
Heh, how very Apple.
Those people were wrong then and they are especially, extremely wrong now, 23 years after the turn of the millennia, as they watch Tim Cook sell a brand new MacBook Pro with a brand new M3 processor that comes with 8GB of RAM and costs $1,600 and applaud. The same type of Apple apologists are now saying 8 GB is enough for most people with a straight face. They are calling the people who are saying that 8 GB is not enough Apple haters and elitists, who simply do not GET RAM or Unified Memory. -
Most of the kids at this judo class are running around or milling about. One dude is meditating. Watching eagerly to see if he is super badass.Comments

OK, recumbing while working feels good for the back, if you’ve had a rough night of sleep, it can also put you out.Comments

I thought of writing something to get around the problem with Mastodon only working if you check it several times a day. (It only gives you posts from the last couple hours. If you scroll back further in a list, you’ll see gaps that go all the way to the last time you logged in.) It was going to be something like a keep-alive service that kept pulling posts periodically.Comments
But there’s just way too much for me to do. I’m going to have to explicitly put that idea down and just live with getting a small random sample of whatever’s going on there. -

We tried a new judo club today. There were like 35 kids and five or six instructors, all of them good. The guy got to spar with five different kids in addition to doing more detailed drilling than at the other place.Comments
I wouldn’t have bothered because it is a slightly longer drive, but at the last class our current place, the sensei was out for the fourth time, and the substitute was a yellow belt. It wasn’t clear if he had taught kids before.
Anyway, it’s good that this place is so vibrant. -
For whatever reason, I was thinking about the Empire Strikes Back Atari game. Then, I remembered that the kid who let me play it was an older kid I met via the older brother of a friend my age. I think I lost track of him after that friend moved away, though this guy continued to live a few blocks away from me.Comments
I looked him up, and he's a real estate agent. I feel disappointed and somehow like that's a waste of human potential, but I guess that's not really justified. What did I think he was going to be? A professional cool video games introducer? I didn't know much about him other than he seemed mature, had the 2600, was good at pretend shoot-and-bomb games, and he liked tennis. -
19-minute run, 13 pull-ups, back and ab stuff.Comments
