Looks like it's been 21 days since I last worked on Flooding. From one perspective, that's pretty bad for something I hoped to finish in 2023. But it's also better than just going away forever.

Richard Stallman is a messed up person. I knew he thought pedophilia was OK. However, I thought this was something that just slipped out when he was talking about Marvin Minsky’s pedophilia at Epstein’s resort. It turns out he’s been very vocal about this for a decade. Stallman:
It sounds horrible: “UN peacekeepers accused of child rape in South Sudan.” But the article makes it pretty clear that the “children” involved were not children. They were teenagers.
The cornerstone of his justification of pedophilia is that he believes 12-year-olds aren’t children, therefore cases like Roy Moore trying to have sex with a 14-year-old are fine to him.

Drew quotes a lot of what he says about situations with adult women as well. He vocally pushes some sort of strict definition of sexual assault from pre-modern times.

This is a live album by the Malian guitarist Bounaly. It’s recorded at a wedding, but it just sounds like a band going at it with no real concessions to the event. It’s a really good listen. I don’t think I’ve heard this kind of really pure soloing in a while. Modern shredders tend to really plan things out carefully with little spontaneity. This, in contrast, had a ton of live feeling.

Three years ago, Spotify made this big swerve to podcasts, deciding it would get the company to be profitable and let them dominate all audio. They threw a lot of their stated goals about being careful with misinformation out the window to do it. It didn’t help them dominated all audio. I’ve heard they’ve since flipped to LLMs.

Where are Spotify’s podcasts now?
Rogan’s tens of millions of listeners make his show Spotify’s most successful podcast in the United States and ninety-two other markets. Podcast strategist Eric Nuzum put it more bluntly: Rogan is “the only thing they have,” he recently told Amrita Khalid of Hot Pod. No matter how often Rogan says the n-word or spreads anti-vax conspiracies, Spotify needs him.

Laptop speakers are the hardest for me to get a mix right for, unless the piece was originally composed on laptop speakers. They’re trickier than phone speakers, cheap Bluetooth speakers, car speakers, headphones, and obviously, studio monitors. The mobile Safari of listening contexts. I think I might give myself a break and write them off.

OK, Flying Fortress (fixed)! I introduced last-second arrangement mistake while trying to slam out the track yesterday. Also, the cello was added at the last second to thicken the viola, so I took a little time to make it less blend better.

Here is Flying Fortress. I originally wrote one of the riffs on guitar and was planning to learn the rest on guitar, but I think this works better with synthier sounds. (Also, recording guitar is a hassle.)

I did the mix in ten minutes. Maybe I'll revisit later; maybe it's good enough.
