I tried to fix two issues with my aged car stereo.

1) The radio and aux mode buttons broke because they’re made from thin plastic. Turns out they each just push another actual button underneath on the PC board. So, I removed them and widened the holes they were in so the actual buttons can be pressed directly.

2) It’s hard to get sound to both speakers via the aux port unless the 1/8” cable is in a particular position. I looked in the port, and I guess it’s just slightly too wide. I tried cutting off the ring in front of it so that the plug could go deeper, but that turned out to not matter. So, I glued a shim next to it the push the plug to the left. I hope that helps.

I spent over an hour scrubbing through this city council meeting video (after trying to piece things together from terse meeting minutes, trying to find out if they discussed using emergency cash to prevent school firings until the Prop 2.5 override (which will allow property taxes to be raised more than 2.5%) passes in the fall. I never found out; it seems like no?

That video web page provides no transcript, even though there are captions, possibly baked into the mp4. Maybe I'll try to pry it out tomorrow.

I'm really trying to be a basic informed citizen here, but it's really inefficient. This really is asking a lot of people who aren't retired.

That said, I did like what I heard so far from all of the city councilors (except the Old Medford guy, Scarpelli, who just complained about "waste" even though Medford has an incredibly lean budget compared to other cities its size) and the mayor. In Cambridge, they basically all suck, except maybe Azeem. One upside of not having a strong commercial sector is that business interests haven't dug in as hard.

I started an Opties blog to keep track of how my computer opties (options for things to do on the computer) are going. I try to choose an optie before sitting at the computer and then do that. Of course, I’ll inevitably do other stuff because the computer is the most dangerous multifunction device known to humanity, but I hope to at least make some progress on the optie in each session.

The wind blew our gate shut so that the stick was stuck above the latch (second picture) instead of in the latch (first picture), making it impossible to open from outside of the yard. So, I had to climb out a window into the yard to open it.

I’ve climbed out of windows like five times in my life but spread across my life. It is possible that I’ll be doing this when I’m 80.

I used to assume that any marination had to last at least an hour, but there’s a bunch of recipes on Kenji’s The Wok book that marinate for fifteen minutes. So, I tried marinating some bulgogi fifteen minutes before putting it on the grill, and it was fine!

Junior calisthenics, n-minute run. The guy fell and scraped his knees at some point (not long after he pointed out the tree root hazard, actually), then we walked the most of the way from there.

I did one pull-up. Things sometimes (but not always!) feel kind of loose in the trapezius zone still.

I'm almost done taking the code that is almost the same in two of my games and making it into a shared library. One thing that happened in the transition is that the turn distributor started giving turns to both throngs (groups of individuals that act as one) and the individuals in the throngs.

So, I saw this confusing behavior in which an alligator would join the throng and would seem like it was sort of doing what the throng was doing but sometimes not. The alligator was actually doing what the throng was doing, then also doing its own thing because it was given two turns. Which I do kind of respect.
