Wow. I just spent another hour and a half miscalculating the tonality diamond again. This was all (again) because because I have an aversion to carefully reading text that describes math.Comments
I did finally get it, though. It's not actually that hard! -
Hey, Plex added iTunes Smart Playlists! Those were my jam.Comments

Emmy Noether was a math and physics pioneer.Comments
Naturally, she was treated horribly. In the spring of 1915, Noether was invited to return to the University of Göttingen by David Hilbert and Felix Klein. Their effort to recruit her, however, was blocked by the philologists and historians among the philosophical faculty: Women, they insisted, should not become privatdozenten. One faculty member protested: "What will our soldiers think when they return to the university and find that they are required to learn at the feet of a woman?"
Learning: It’s done at the feet. -

Whoa, the guy can do six fingertip push-ups. I can do three. Strong fingers? Probably. But also helps to keep your weight to finger strength ratio low.Comments

Junior calisthenics, ab stuff, 18-minute run, 12 pull-ups.Comments
I had a dream that I was doing some sparring on the ground. My back was completely OK, but I was hyperaware of it.
I think I am doing a very cliche thing — vicariously living an athletic life through my kid. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think I’m keeping it chill and ready to pull the plug on it if it gets bad, though! -

My friend Hugh posted some Spotify layoff-related stuff that made me go look at LinkedIn, and I found out that the general vibe among people that worked there, though, is like some kind of natural disaster happened. Like, oh an earthquake happened, it's so sad! What actually happened was that rich guys who run a corporation used them up and then fired them.Comments
I don't get this loyalty and "we changed the world" talk at all. Changed the world? You have Joe Rogan $200 million and took more dimes away from actual musicians. Some of them did fight to get smaller artists into playlists, but in the end, that just adds up to a little exposure, which is no counterbalance for the rest of it.
I guess I really am way way out of the work culture mainstream now. -
Hey, the guy swept an opponent on the ground in randori today. In other rounds, some kids just kinda pushed him down and pinned him, and he had no idea what to do about that, but it's a start!Comments

Dag, my epoxy resin came in, and I want to mess with it, but I have to do a bunch of job stuff now if I don’t want to do it late at night.Comments

Well, I realized tonight that I've been calculating the tonality diamond incorrectly for a year and a half. At least I know how now, and at least I caught it. I think my incorrectly-derived diamond did sound cool, though.Comments

I looked at LinkedIn. Even *former* employees of Spotify are really obsequious when they talk about the company. Super gross! Be your own person, everyone.Comments

Spotify laid off 1,500 people today. When I was there, they had around 4,000 employees total. Maybe they're back to 4K now.Comments
Daniel Ek and Gustav What's-His-Name are still employed and are getting paid the same, AFAIK.
I'm sure the people laid off aren't happy about it, but I'm envious of them. The one condition under which I would have worked for Spotify again is if I would have been guaranteed that I'd be laid off with severance the next day.
I am guessing that after their genius pivot to podcasts/Joe Rogan, the "DTeam" (the guys who report to Daniel) now think they can do what they used to do with 1,500 employees with LLMs. -
About to watch the finale of De Mol Seizoen 9. Usually, the finalists have a good idea of who De Mol is. This time, I’ll just say…not quite as much. I wonder what happens if no one knows for sure but happens to get the most of questions right, even if most of them are wrong.Comments
