Spotify laid off 1,500 people today. When I was there, they had around 4,000 employees total. Maybe they're back to 4K now.
Daniel Ek and Gustav What's-His-Name are still employed and are getting paid the same, AFAIK.
I'm sure the people laid off aren't happy about it, but I'm envious of them. The one condition under which I would have worked for Spotify again is if I would have been guaranteed that I'd be laid off with severance the next day.
I am guessing that after their genius pivot to podcasts/Joe Rogan, the "DTeam" (the guys who report to Daniel) now think they can do what they used to do with 1,500 employees with LLMs.
