Scientists said that this year was on track to become the warmest on record as the global surface air temperatures breached the threshold of 1.5C for each of the past 12 months and seas had reached their warmest for 15 months in a row.

There was a really great quotefrom the commerce secretary, Gina Raimondo, a couple years ago, when she was referring to some of the heat waves that year, and she said something like, “This [hot] summer is [going] to be one of the coolest ... of the rest of our lives.”

The clouds are orange over the Pacific near the equator right now. I think that's because the ISS is passing into daylight, so there's a sunrise kind of effect? And I actually have no idea how that effect works. Light comes at the clouds an angle so more red light is reflected? I should not have made of ICP about the magnets thing.

Cursed MIT architecture has spawned these aluminum chairs. They seem like an anti-homeless measure, yet the designers probably had no idea that they feel hostile. They sound horrific when moved.

Due to us forgetting the guy's backpack, we drove to MIT, then had to drive home, then drove back again. After which, I just decided to work from Kendall so I wouldn't have to drive home, then drive back again. It was eighty minutes of driving.

Driving the exact route the second time is the most disheartening part. I'd be a terrible cab driver.

They found a cap. It was in the mesh bag, not in the ziplock bag. Space!

Oh, re: the HDEV showing space: It was never flipped around. It's always pointed at Earth, but sometimes it's on the dark side of Earth and it picks up city lights, which looked like stars to me.

AOC endorses Biden. I’ve been leaning toward, “Well, who can tell if replacing Biden will actually help. Probably not, but might as well try it.” AOC is pretty realistic, though, and does know more than me about what the odds are. So, that gives me pause. Though, honestly, I was already quite well paused. Additionally, it really doesn’t matter what I think about this. I really should be thinking about where the SCOTUS ruling will put us in ten years.

It turns out that the all-purpose glue does not glue wood to plastic for more than a week. The wood chips I glued to my car stereo to push the aux cable consistently into a place at which stereo sound gets from my phone to the car stereo have come off. So, the quest continues!

I drilled a hole into a leftover IKEA screw cover. It has a top lip that will cling to the top of the car stereo. The hole is slightly higher and to the left of where the aux port is so that the aux cable is hopefully pushed up and to the left. I’m gluing it onto the stereo. Maybe the glue is better at plastic on plastic? If it dissolves, the lip might help keep things up.

We tried paddle boarding. It turned out to mostly be standing on a pond, which was chill. The point of it is that you are on the water.

A lot of human recreation is just “be in this thing,” where the thing may be a pond, a forest, or a sand beach. For the very rich, there is also space. There are artificial things to be in like ball pits, saunas, foam parties, and isolation tanks.

I feel like the variables in “environmental” recreation are:

- Temperature
- Medium
- Near or in medium
- Mode of motion
- Elevation
- Lighting

So, a form of recreation could be going into a warm chamber filled with nonstick jelly that you roll around on and bounce up and down on as you go. It’s underground a lit by a glow emanating from the jelly. $20, sign a waiver, and you’re in!
