The Shadow PresidentComments
But, according to court records, interviews and other accounts from people close to Vought, DOGE’s efforts were guided, more than was previously known, by the OMB director. Musk bragged about “feeding USAID into the wood chipper,” but the details of the agency’s downsizing were ironed out by Vought’s office. When DOGE took aim at obscure quasi-government nonprofits, such as the United States Institute of Peace, OMB veterans saw Vought’s influence at work. “I can’t imagine that the DOGE team knew to target all these little parts of the government without Russ pointing them there,” the former OMB branch chief told me. Vought also orchestrated DOGE’s hostile takeover of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, crippling a regulator that Republicans had hoped to shutter during Trump’s first term. “DOGE is underneath the OMB,” Michelle Martin, an official with Citizens for Renewing America, a grassroots group founded by Vought, said in May, according to a video of her remarks. “Honestly, a lot of what Elon began pinpointing ... was at the direction of Russ.”

AGENTS TACKLE US CITIZEN AFTER EAST SIDE OPERATION LEADS TO CRASH, SPILLS INTO WALGREENSComments
"You don't know what's going on, so get the *** back!" an agent can be heard saying in the video.
ICE and, in this case, the border patrol aren’t even trying cover up that they’ve hired a bunch of goons. Losers that couldn’t even become cops. They don’t know what they’re doing; they just know that they’re now finally allowed to get their hands on people who aren’t allowed to fight back.
They crashed a car (they claim an immigrant crashed into their car, which sounds incredibly unlikely), arrested a citizen, then tear gassed a crowd.
This is an unannounced martial law. In Korea, the previous president tried to enact martial law, and now he faces execution or at best life in prison. That’s exactly what we should be doing here. - Comments

Looks like DHS is spending money on threatening immigrants via ads on YouTube. I guess the point is to project strength or something? Another very weird part of our weird times.Comments

There were some setbacks and some progress at judo today. I couldn't throw with uchimata today. Last week, I got three people with it, but they were all white belts that kept on taking this bent forward posture that's really helpful. Nor could they stop me from getting close.Comments
Today, my randori opponents were more experienced, which is probably the primary factor in its failure, but I also forgot to approach from an angle and step in from a further distance. So, I was only able to throw with left side two-on-one grip osotogari and right side counter osotogari.
I did make progress in escaping kesa gatame, though. I was able to escape twice in randori, once against a large jiu-jitsu guy. There's still a lot to work on there, but angling my bridge so that it's more "sideways" and moving as if I were going to flip onto my stomach helps a lot.
I was feeling kind of creaky before I went, but it all turned out OK. -

Anyway, another protip for not getting bummed out: Do not watch video clips from when Obama was president.Comments

In Episode 3 of College Behind Bars is intense like the other ones, and there is a really crushing personal story in there, as well as a funny bit about a guy who has to deal with Slack after 20 years in prison.Comments
There's a tangential bit where they show Obama speaking about the DOE funding college for prisoners. While he was not the perfect president, I found myself wishing so hard we could go back to a time when a non-criminal grifter who spoke like a normal person was in charge and genuinely trying to think things through and make things better. I really miss that.
I avoid thinking about this too much because there's not really much to think about it that I and everyone else has already thought, but this is such an astoundingly bad situation we've gotten ourselves into. Really close to the worst possible one, really. - Comments

This A.I. agent doesn't place much importance on the difference between < and >. After all, it's just one token among many, right?Comments

That is a ridiculously large outbreak of measles given that we’re in the 21st century. -

An 89-year-old Chinese man was here to get his shot. No English, just a translate app. I was ready to witness a Positive Technology Moment.Comments
I think he might have made it through, but then there was some complication about what actual shot he was getting.
Fortunately, one of the pharmacists did speak Chinese, so it got worked out. -

I think when we first moved in, I was somewhat influenced by the book Katt read about how you need to try hard to make friends by talking to lots of people. So, I made sure to say hi to the next-door neighbors and had small chats. Also, I bumped one of their cars with our rental truck so I felt really bad about that.Comments
Over time, I unconsciously reverted back to my state of nature. When I open our side door, and I make eye contact with my neighbor, I do say hi, but then try to quickly move on because I really do not want to chat every time I open the door to toss out compost.
But the same applies when I go out the front door. I do that because I am trying to go somewhere. I also do not want to chat then. If not then, when though?
This is what's hard about the whole "everyone should talk to people who are different from them, and then there would be less polarization" idea. It's way easier to talk to people you have something in common with! My neighbor's not a Trump guy or anything like that, but he is an older Brazilian man with a blue collar job, so weather, people's gardens looking nice, and home improvement are basically the entire conversation topic list.
I guess at least I can continue to say hi, which is not building bridges but isn't burning any, either. -
Back workout, 2x3 power cleans, 2x5 slow deadlifts.Comments
The deadlifts felt fairly easy. I might be stronger. I’m not in a rush to move up, though. Moving up to going to judo twice a week is quite enough.
