If we accept for a moment that these poll numbers are accurate, this might look like good news because Trump’s approval rating is trending downwards.Comments
In February, 94% of those who reported voting for Trump in 2024 approved of the way he was handling his job. This has declined to 88% today.
Let’s look at this in another two months, but I suspect this means he has a fairly unmovable base that supports the personality and the avatar, rather than the policies.
I think this is all he wants. He wants to be popular with his base, and among “strong” men like Musk and Putin. And possibly the approval of the strong men matters more than his base. He’ll keep undermining the US as long as he has that.
Enforcement of the law is the only thing that will stop him. So far, that is not happening. -

I definitely did not feel like I was improving at judo tonight. I threw a few times with osotogari and once with tani otoshi. No forward throws whatsoever. A few attempts, though.Comments
However, I did do five rounds of newaza randori and three rounds of standing. Absolutely dying by the end, but still moving and trying stuff. So, that is actually an endurance improvement, if not a technical one.
One thing I really appreciated while we were working on escapes from kesa gatame is that the sensei straight up acknowledged that it's a strength thing. I asked if there was another way to get out if the pin is tight, and he just said no, your bridging just is not strong enough.
In judo, there usually is a technical way to make something happen that requires less strength than the intuitive way. That's the whole point of it! So, people are hesitant to say "you just need more strength" because they want to discourage muscling through something that that could be done more efficiently. But strength always helps, and very occasionally, something cannot be done with some minimum amount of strength. Bridging out of kesa gatame is one of those things (and it is your only choice if it's locked in solidly), and it was nice to hear no ambiguity about that. -

Jefferson's victory did not put an end to the intense partisan acrimony. The lame-duck Federalist Congress reduced the size of the Supreme Court from six to five to limit Jefferson's influence over the Court. With its new majority, the Republican Congress repealed the move, and a few years later, it expanded the Court to seven to give Jefferson another appointment.
This was the Midnight Judges Act. It never occurred to me (and maybe modern congress) that congress can change the number of SCOTUS judges. -

At this point, I understood that the rest of the questions were all going to be one-shots in which every answer I gave would be followed by an question unrelated to my answer. There was one about the quality of my day, followed by one about the quality of the weekend. She was nice and just trying to be pleasant! But I was trying to think about where else I've seen this, and later, I realized it was Jim Gaffigan on Flight of the Conchords.
After everything was rung up, she concluded, "Well, I am glad you were able to get outside today." Tying it all together! -

Unions Without StrikesComments
What power do unions have when right wing courts are against us? When the NLRB has ceased to function? When the government disregards our contracts, fires our members, and declares our painstakingly won rights to be nonexistent? We have the power of the strike. That is the one power that no president or court or employer can ever take away. Workers do the work, and they can stop doing the work. Everything the labor movement has built flows from that truth. The power of the contracts and the laws and the agencies that are supposed to protect us are all, ultimately, contingent on the fundamental power of the strike. We are finding out the hard way that unions that cannot or will not strike are exceedingly easy to disregard.
This is true, and yet I’m not optimistic that strikes are going to come back. -
