The Trader Joe's cashier decided to make conversation.

Me: No, just while driving here. Are you going to be get outside today?
Here, I thought this is what she wanted to talk about and expected her to say a lot.

Me: Yes, this is some good pepper value.
Cashier: [silence]
At this point, I understood that the rest of the questions were all going to be one-shots in which every answer I gave would be followed by an question unrelated to my answer. There was one about the quality of my day, followed by one about the quality of the weekend. She was nice and just trying to be pleasant!
