On a personal benefit level, I guess it was kind of better when non-EVs would park in the charging spots at the library because I could ask them to make an announcement to move their car, and then I could take that space.Comments
The last few weeks, legit EVs have been charging in those spaces, so I have to charge at home. Overall, that is better for everyone, though. -
Trump won the popular vote by 1.58%.Comments
Though it looked like he was over 50 percent on Election Night, the steady drip of late ballots has eroded his percentage to (currently) 49.87 percent, with further slippage very likely before all the votes are in.
That is less than it seemed like on election night, but I still think many of the actual people in this country are a huge problem that can’t be worked around with policies or political platforms. -
No rib muscle pull at judo tonight! That is the greatest victory. I did jam a finger and rip the skin off my elbows, but the blood was all nicely contained inside my gi.Comments
I felt exhausted during warm-ups, but then recovered during technique time. Endurance-wise, I was able to get through a couple of newaza randori and barely do three rounds of standing. The newaza ones were kind of free, though. I went with white belts, and I can still just sweep them and generally hold them off without have to spend too much energy.
Standing, I wasn’t able to land any throws I initiated. All my throws that work (other than kouchi makikomi) are counters right now.
We went over tomoe nage. You know, the one Ryu does. I’m not great at it, but the biggest barrier to doing it turns out to be actually trying it once. After that, I went for it basically anytime someone was hunched over. It didn’t work, but it was no big deal to try. -
Hempuli (the Baba Is You guy) is going through his old (and maybe future?) video game idea list right now on a live stream. It's a lot of cool ideas that mostly didn't happen. It's fun to see successful devs have that, too.Comments

I played back these three songs in a different order, and now it sounds good to me. Human music perception: Always extremely unreliable.Comments

From an AI garbage site that came up with I searched for where “Siren: Survive the Island” was shot:Comments
'Siren: Survive the Island' is shot in full in South Korea, especially on one of the country's many islands. South Korea is a government-owned area located near the mainland's southern section, as the title implies. This includes all the islands adjacent to the southern portion of the island.
SOUTH KOREA IS A MEMBER OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. -
I thought I finished a mini-EP, but now I don’t think the songs don’t really hang together. Maybe I’ll think the opposite tomorrow, though!Comments

I feel like I've run out of Good Internet. Social media, news sites (except News as Facts), and aggregators like Reddit and MetaFilter all make me regret looking at them. Even the boards for small communities I'm part of are just kind of eh.Comments
I think YouTube is maybe the part of the web I like the most now? That's sad.
I guess I should crack open the books more often. -
I don’t want to sit here pointing out every splat that shoots out of Trump’s ass, but this is just telling people hey I’m a criminal that is going to do crimes:Comments
Trump has refused to sign ethics pledges or agreements required by the Presidential Transitions Act, allowing his transition team to accept secret donations and avoid mandated transparency. Trump has also missed key deadlines and failed to enable FBI background checks on nominees, prompting criticism from lawmakers who warned this undermines the administration’s preparedness for national security and ethical governance. Historically, transitions have complied with agreements limiting donations and disclosing donors to prevent conflicts of interest and foreign influence, but Trump’s actions bypass these norms, raising accountability concerns. Trump is the first president-elect to bypass these restrictions.

If you’ve wondered why Trump, Silicon Valley shits like Peter Thiel, Christians, incels, “working class” Whites (which always seems to include richer people than me who happen to have pickup trucks), and some Latino men are all working together, yes, it’s racism and misogyny and transphobia, but on this Past Present Future episode, Alan Finlayson stated it way more elegantly. They all hate equality. They do not think everyone deserves a fair shake, and indeed, would like to go back to a time of lords and explicit racial and gender hierarchy. It would be way easier for them!Comments

The one woman that puts up flyers around Medford about the MBTA's service cuts actually went canvassing today and came to our door. Truly heroic.Comments
The contents of her flyer and talk are about the MBTA bus route redesign in 2022. Those changes are going to go into effect soon. (The MBTA site says starting in December 2024.) It involves a lot of service cuts to Medford that will make it hard for a lot of people to get where they need to go, particularly older folks that don't drive and can't walk long distances.
The flyer highlights the following cuts from the MBTA site:
- #96 won't serve Boston Ave. and will terminate in Union Sq., NOT Harvard Sq.
- #94 will be eliminated.
- #80 will run on Boston Ave. from Davis Sq. to Burlington, but it will be a low-frequency route (every hour during the day, every 1.5 hours after 7 PM)
- #134 will not go up into the Meadow Glen mall or go post the Fellsway Plaza; it will stay on Locust St. then continue to Mystic Valley Parkway.
If you live or work in Medford or Somerville, there's petitions you can sign to let the MBTA know that these routes are needed (she said made separate petitions for each cut because a previous petition that mentioned several routes got a response from the MBTA that quietly ignored several routes):

I spent a lot of time writing up a kids' D&D adventure years ago — more time than I spent coming up with and running the adventure. No one really needed that. Just now, though, someone on a Discord asked for almost exactly this! So, past effort kinda justified?Comments

I found a gap in the weatherstripping of our side door, which is somewhat crappy. I sealed it, and I’m kind of bothered that I can’t measure how much difference that makes.Comments

D&D reconvened after a long break yesterday. As they were found in-game, I handed out pieces of a cryptic drawing to the players as a clue, but it turned out to be even more cryptic than I thought. I didn’t have time to do multiple passes of the drawing anyway, but I should have at least handed out the entire drawing instead of pieces. It would helped with pacing, too.Comments
One issue with plot-based adventure design (and opposed to sandbox-based) is the fear that the players will rip through the events really quickly, leaving you to improvise without guidance, even though that almost never happens.
One way to address that is to design so many events that you know you won’t run out. If you don’t play that regularly, though, that could be wasted effort. -

I don’t like Anil Dash generally, but his criticism of Substack is well-phrased.Comments
Substack is, just as a reminder, a political project made by extremists with a goal of normalizing a radical, hateful agenda by co-opting well-intentioned creators' work in service of cross-promoting attacks on the vulnerable.
