I don’t know what he was humming. Maybe it was one of the trumpet songs he’s practicing? Whatever it is, it’s so heartening that he’s enjoying jams in his sleep.

There's a set in Squid Game that is a hotel basement that has been stripped of its usual trappings and instead has various targets for shooting.

Katt said it looked like my parents' basement. It does!

They do not have shooting targets, but they do have a net that they hit golf balls into, shelves full of DVDs no one wants to buy, and various boxes of merchandise my dad bought cheaply at auction. It resembles the warehouse he used to run his business from. My uncles also had places like this.

To me, unfinished basements with makeshift stuff in them are very Korean.

In case anyone else was wondering, if you want a reference to a cell in Google Sheets to not change when you copy and past it elsewhere, you want an "absolute reference." To make a reference absolute, you have to put a $ before both the row and column. e.g. If you want a formula to always refer to cell C19 no matter where it's copied and pasted, you'd refer to it as $C$19.

Back workout (I think oblique sit-ups and diagonal bridges are now a part of this), five slow deadlifts, thirteen minutes on the treadmill. I felt out of it all day, and I think taking some throws from the guy helped me a bit, so I decided to some working out.

Is there a horror story about stabbing a Thermopen into someone’s heart to find out its temperature? There’s gotta be.

Having an on-board tire gauge is nice. I found out one of the tire’s pressure had dropped. Then, I put in more air and noticed it was leaking. I was able to find a garage open on Friday night and get it patched. (There was a nail in the side of the tire. How that happened, I do not know.)

Without the gauge, the tire would have flattened overnight. I’d have to put on the spare tire in the freezing cold, which I possibly would have somehow messed up. Then, I’d be able to drive it to a place to get it patched.

I was scrolling through this devlog, and it occurred to me that it would be better if I had posted only pictures and no words to it.

Sometimes, I have trouble naming a function, then I come up with a genius name.

I ended up on this Wikipedia page and was kind of stunned by the text. It’s a Georgian script, and it’s different enough from any language I’ve seen to make me feel like someone that’s never seen writing before.

Based on Glenn's description, Liz Pelly's new book about Spotify isn't going to tell me anything I didn't already know. Except that the internal Spotify Slack channel #ethics-club was leaked to her. There are some damning discussions there. No executive ever weighs in, but replacing artists' music with flat-fee filler commissioned by Spotify and other things like that are discussed.

I felt like I was in OK shape at judo today? I partnered with a heavy dude during the throwing drills. I wanted to be nice, but I also did not want to strain anything, so I avoided any hauling up. The senseis pointed out you don't need to lift with your hips in hip throws. You just need to throw them over the hip by turning your torso. Indeed, it was way less work and easier on the knees.

During newaza drills, I again ended up with a really large guy and somehow his neck got tweaked during one of my escapes? We took it easy for the rest of the reps, and he was fine, fortunately. I should have asked up front about how aggressive he wanted to go, even if he was large. I don't think I was particularly aggressive, but I did think I'd have to really dig deep to move him.

There was more newaza randori than standing, which helps me save energy. I was able to do these partial escapes in which I got my knee some space, but my arm and head were trapped. I took half guard and was still able to roll to the top, so I was able to apply downward pressure in mount, even with my arm trapped. I was able to do this twice, yet I'm not 100% sure how.

It's interesting to see what you can get done with one arm trapped. An opponent may be holding onto your arm, but you can still get yoko shiho gatame (side control). You can get mount and grapevine the opponent's legs so that they can't be used.

I did one round of standing randori, and yeah, I'm still dying and still amazed by how kids and do so much of this.

I did try to build up my perceiving and go with the flow more, but I'm not sure I actually did that much perceiving.

The perceiving is why newaza goes better for me. I'm able to tell what people are going to do, and then counter that. Sometimes if I'm tired, I just use body weight to hold someone down, then only become active when they're about to do something. So, I guess I should keep on working on perception while standing.
