KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — The number of suspected Ebola cases in Congo’s southern Kasai province have more than doubled in a week since a new outbreak was confirmed there, Africa’s top public health agency said Thursday.
This is really not a good time for this. At least they don’t have RFK in charge. Though, if it gets here, we may end up being told to prevent the spread by eating organic foods or something.
The suspected cases have increased from 28 to 68 in recent days, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said at an online briefing. It has also spread from two to four districts while the death toll currently stands at 16. -

I think I had some breakthroughs in escaping kesa gatame. The most reliable escape from it is also the most difficult one. It involves bridging for space, getting your knee under the opponent, then bridging them over your opposite shoulder.Comments
Maybe I'll try to explain this better later, but here's some technical details I never knew about or didn't notice before today:
- Bridge enough to move, but not so much that it takes a long time because the real point is to make space to get your knee in.
- *The point is to bump the opponent's back so that they bend forward, lifting their hips off the mat so that you can get your knee in.* Aim for their back. I wasn't doing this before. I was trying to project them upward over my shoulder. I totally did not understand this, until the sensei had me try it on him, then pointed out what should be happening.
- Gripping over their shoulder in advance helps you bridge them over you as soon as your knee is under them.
- Doing the shrimp motion in a way that *you intend to flip yourself all the way to turtle* helps you get your knee under. With an actual opponent holding you down, you won't actually be able to turn that far, but by turning your knee downward, you have a better chance of sliding it under them.
My standing work really sucked today, but that's OK. At least I improved that escape, finally. -

Recurse Center just kicked someone out for posting political comments in a Zulip sub-board that was labeled to indicate that it would have political stuff in it. His last comment as far as I can tell referred to Charlie Kirk as "Baby Goebbels." I don't see how that's hurtful to anyone except followers of Kirk or Goebbels, who are simply not going to to have a genuine interest in learning and open-mindedness, which Recurse screens for.Comments

[Spider-Man co-creator] Ditko was an ardent supporter of Objectivism.[131][132] The philosophy of Ayn Rand had "forever changed [Ditko's] outlook on morality, finances and his mission as a comic-book creator".[133] After Ditko had received greater control of the plotting, he began revering the role of policemen in his Spider-Man work. Ditko had once told his Charlton co-worker Pete Morisi, a policeman who moonlighted as a comic book artist, that he envied Morisi for being able to arrest criminals.[134] Randian philosophy had influenced Ditko to demand being credited and compensated as both the plotter and artist for Spider-Man beginning in issue #25, which Stan Lee (now credited as "scripter") allowed, though their working relationship would begin deteriorating.[135] Other ways Ditko incorporated Randian views into Spider-Man were by having Peter Parker become more aggressive, demand better pay for his Spider-Man photos, and show contempt for student protestors.[136] Marvel publisher Martin Goodman had been worried that Parker's hard right-wing politics would distance the character from most left-leaning, countercultural university students,[137] and disputes with Goodman over royalties had led to Ditko leaving Marvel.[138]

Mayor Wu actually directly attacks Prop. 2.5!Comments
I don’t think any other politician has said this out loud.That Prop 2 1/2 puts communities into a hamster wheel where they cannot keep up with inflationary costs is becoming more and more of a common conversation. I have heard it across the state these past two budget seasons. Wu, of course, commands a much larger platform, so this voice will matter as this continues, I suspect, to snowball.

The analog synth version of the Metroid item room music is incredibly good. A lot of it is that reverb. The sounds sound like they're actually coming from a space, which is a huge boost for atmospheric music. An alternative universe in which every NES somehow shipped with analog synths (making them 10x the size) would be amazing.Comments
