I did another pass of mixing. Because we're using an old laptop with a broken audio out jack, my USB mixer board is hooked up to it so that it can emit sound when we're watching videos on it. So, in order to use the monitors in the basement, I have to disconnect it. The AC adapter is behind the shakamuka and is inconvenient to move.Comments
And yet, I lived.
After the monitor mix, though, I immediately listened to it upstairs and changed a bunch of stuff. I think it'll be fine on the monitors, though. I definitely do not have something going on in every frequency band like the Mixing Engineer's Handbook says you should, but it is at least snappy, and every part is audible. - Comments

Supposedly, the loudness wars are over. But when I listen to any random Bandcamp release, they're always way louder than than what I'm mixing.Comments
Ideally, we should all be telling listeners "just turn the volume up if it's not loud enough; if I compress it for you so it's loud on your laptop speakers, we'll lose dynamics." In practice, unless your release is classical or ambient, you'll just lose someone checking it out because they can't immediately hear what's going on as well as they can with whatever heavily compressed song they were just listening to.
This just happened to me when I listened to the new Pulse Emitter (which isn't even close to fried to death like a major label release) and then played my own EP. Quiet a.f. -
I'm only four tracks in, but the new Pulse Emitter album is surprising. It is not ambient at all. It's still all synths, but the songs are short and fast, and there are obvious riffs.Comments

It never occurred to me that a lot of people don’t know what correlation means and do not want to know. To me, it is not at all “fancy talk.” But I think it actually may be.
So we have to adjust to this. How? I, unfortunately, am not the one to tell you, except that we need to make education actually good. I do not know what to do about adults that are committed to being stupid as their identity. -

Another feature of the works of this period is the increasing use of rhyming passages. In the case of the Lao tzu these amount to considerably more than half of the whole work. Such passages must have been meant to be learned by rote with the meaning explained at length in an oral commentary. Hence the cryptic nature of most of the sayings.
So, reading the Lao Tzu is like reading a slide deck without the presentation or presenter notes! -
