I stopped and immediately soaked my hands in cold water. Though I have to admit, I don’t know how reducing inflammation helps in this situation.
I know athletes ice bath their entire bodies after hard workouts, but that’s a practice
that’s now in question for more than one reason. One of them is that, as I wondered, it’s not certain that reducing inflammation is always helpful. The other is that cold might not actually reduce inflammation anyway.
Soaking my hands in cold water is a suggestion I got from an orthopedist a few years ago. (He was mostly interested in whether there was a need for surgery, then kind of shrugged when he determined there wasn’t.) But I can’t say I’m certain he wasn’t just cargo culting, too.
