It sucks that the world is literally on fire and going right wing all over the place.
Over on the personal front, it sucks realizing personal effort is a zero sum game. Trying harder at anything means doing less at something else. Spending more time on home planning and maintenance is less time for art. More time on art can mean less time for work. More time on work could be less time doing things with people you care about.
When I was younger, I assumed it could just try harder at all things, but that was because when I tried harder at something, I was spending more time at that thing and just doing less of nothing, which I was doing plenty of.
I think this applies to energy as well as time. You don’t want to work yourself to death because then it’s harder to not be an asshole to your partner and kid. But then you don’t get done some of what you wanted to do artistically or you don’t have as much money as you would like to be able to buy yourself more time.
The funny thing is, in board games, I find these kind of constraints interesting and fun.
