I was making fries, but without the Thermapen because it's out of batteries, and the oil (predictably) got way hotter than I thought it was. The fries were also less dried than I though they were, so when I dropped them in, a bunch of water evaporated at the same time some burning happened, and a huge smoke cloud materialized.
Despite cooking for two decades now, I seem to end up in the porkchop sandwiches situation every other week or so.
