Limitarianism:
The clearest example of this is the emergence and growth of the platform economy, whereby workers are required to be available to deliver food or do other work if and when they are called upon by consumers via the platform. This is heralded as allowing people to work as and when they want, but would more accurately be termed a contemporary form of day labor. It might be a good way for a young person to earn some extra cash while they are studying and living with their parents, but it does not provide the basis for an adult to raise a family in decent living conditions. In the meantime, the owners of these new platforms, as well as the owners of the companies with employees-turned-flex-workers, have become multimillionaires and billionaires.
I had not thought of the day laborer phrasing. Everyone is a day laborer now.
