I found out from this episode of the Revolutions podcast (from the July Revolution season) that Louis XVIII, wanting to control the media but not get people really angry, would buy out newspapers he didn't like, then shut them down.
If startup bros had been around back then, they'd be furiously starting newspapers that mildly criticized the Bourbons constantly (using A.I. content, if that had also been around somehow).
