A Tale of Repair, reprinted from a Slack:
I asked electricians to replace a wall-through kitchen fan that didn't work.
Old one turned out to not be installed to code. There's no non-ridiculous way to install the new one (which includes a box for the wiring and makes it need wall space).
Also found out the people that installed the old one cut a load-bearing beam, but sort of shunted around it.

Anyway, we said, OK forget it. Don't put in the new one. But the old one can't be put back in either.
SoBut they did put a board and drywall over it, and we have better insulation than when we had broken fan in that wall.
So, now I gotta find Some Guy to repair the exterior in a more permanent way.
It helps that I kinda expected something like this.
Anyway, never own a home that's not perfect. Just have you family sleep in a garbage can or something!
