On the way up, I saw the largest and lowest rainbow I’ve seen in my life. When a rainbow is close to the horizon it looks sort of like a polychromatic sunset. There was another fainter rainbow above it, and the bigger low rainbow was actually a supernumerary rainbow — it has extra bands beyond the initial red through purple that are caused by interference among the light waves coming through the raindrops. At one point, we could see it behind the trees, which was mildly surreal.
