Today, we went to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. My dad threw it out there as an option without knowing much about it. Tripadvisor says the
top three things to do there are to see some magic show, go on a car safari, or walk on the Lake Geneva Shore Path. I did not want to see a magic show or go on a car safari.
The Shore Path turned out to mostly be this narrow strip through rich guys' backyards, peppered with signs warning people to never stray off the path and onto Private Property. The houses were 75% McMansions. There was also a Bible camp.
Geneva Lake (the lake is named Geneva Lake, and the town is named Lake Geneva) could be very enjoyable, but the government allowed private buyers to own all of the coastal land. In effect, they've bought the lake. There's plenty of more insane things going on these days, but bodies of water that large should not be privately owned.
Anyway, as that path being the #3 attraction in town attests, it's not much of a place to visit. We probably should have just gone and looked at Gary Gygax's house for a minute then left.
