I stopped by Commonwealth Books today. It’s the only bookstore near work that I know of, so sometimes I like to stop to take a break.
I thought of it as this kind of noble effort that’s kind of doomed, like other used book stores in high rent areas. A victim of bottom line capitalism, driven by consumers that are taught to value a number over an experience.
So, I have bought a books there that I know I could have gotten cheaper at alibris.com or even the library, and I really look hard for books I could justify buying every time I go.
Today, I noticed that they had a bunch of hardline capitalist quotes from Winston Churchill and Ayn Rand that cast people who aren’t rich as worthless leeches and those that are as the people that really matter.
Heh, OK. You are now a showroom for better prices.
