In the second match, I got thrown early (but for a half point, which is not match-ending), then around 0:25, I was able to sweep from the bottom to get on top.
I wasn't able to get my balance, though, and my opponent pushed me off, so I had to start from scratch. I wasn't able to make progress in time, so we were stood back up.
Three times in this match, there was this embarrassing situation in which I was asked to fix my gi, but I was so exhausted that I couldn't do it right. And I rightly got penalized for it.
Around 1:44, I was able to take advantage of a failed throw to take the opponent's back. I made a choke attempt but wasn't able to get under his jaw.
At 2:25, after failing to make any of my own attacks while he did like ten, I threw with tani otoshi, tying up the score. I was able to get his back and made another failed choke attempt. Then, after that another failed choke attempt! I should have used both hands on one of his arms and gone for kata ha jime.
Then, he moved me into place for a nice ouchi gari and instantly won. I might have prevented that earlier, but I was just too wiped to not just go along when I was pulled.
So, besides the conditioning, which I'm going to work on the same way as I have been (not very hard, and just gradually trying to do more rounds in class), I need to:
- Find ways to move strong people. I feel there was something I could have done with choosing directions. This is what's preventing me from doing forward throws.
- Find alternate chokes and ways to get under the jaw. Because I can definitely get into position to choke.
