Katt is sick, so I did all the childcare today. Since I've been having this career crisis lately, it's actually been really helpful. It's gotten me out of my head, and doing something engaging and fun. Though, of course, I'm now exhausted.
On a related note, we read the chapter in The Hobbit tonight in which Smaug is killed. I was thinking that possibly on this readthrough (it's our second), I'd acknowledge that Smaug was killed. (The text does not involve the words "killed" or "dead", so it's easy to avoid.)
This morning, the guy said that good guys can chop off bad guys' legs. So, I'm hesitant to get into how brutal "good guys" are allowed to be.
He asked why it "was the 'end of Smaug'", and I went with that since Smaug fell into Lake Town, and then it all fell into the water, it put out Smaug's fire, and Smaug probably won't feel like scaring people anymore now that he doesn't have fire. After a few questions, he seemed to accept this.
I don't know if I'll be able to pull this off on the next readthrough.
