Via this entertaining review of 1100 AD Battle of Legends, I learned about J2ME, a surprisingly small JVM that ran on flip phones. There were at least 985 games for it!
I hate Java, but rendering graphics on flip phones is impressive. My experiences with Java all involve it requiring far more resources for a given task than other runtimes.
