The window and door installation workshop is over. I was able to install a level, plumb, and straight door and window in rough openings (or ROs as they are called by those in the know) in frames with no trim or drywall. Most of the time was spent checking levels and shimming repeatedly.
I think it’ll be way harder to do this on my house, in which some of the existing windows were misinstalled. Still, at least I know how the process should feel, ideally. This knowledge seems kind of light, but in current times, it’s hard to believe anything you find on the web about how to do anything, so I’m more inclined to take in-person classes. Even if we weren’t in info-wasteland times, there’s things that hard to convey in writing.
And in idle conversation with an instructor I learned that you can set your house on fire with professional grade spray foam insulation because it’s exothermic when activated.
The other main takeaway is that the process can be way easier with an impact driver and a knuckle bender. An oscillating multi tool would be nice, too. Stuff: There’s always more to want.
