Elon Musk is in fact going to buy Twitter. People say they hate Elon Musk and the right-wing policies he favors. Does that mean people are going to stop using Twitter?
Based on previous events like this, no, they won't.
Part of why he's buying it is because people will stay on it and take it, and in fact, be part of making it work toward his ends. They stayed when they let Nazis recruit and organize, and they stayed when they made it possible for Trump to become the President of the United States. They stayed and perpetuated the idea that everyone needs to be on Twitter and to absorb what their rules give you.
People aren't willing to give up anything that's a convenience, ever, whether or not they think it's bad for them or others. I can't say how many times in the last decade that I've spotted the gulf between what people say they care about and what they actually care about. Paying artists for music, stopping racist violence, voting for national interests in Korea (they recently elected a president that is just about tax cuts for the rich, despite all of the talk about unity as a country), preventing monsters from taking the White House — most of the people who say they care about these things won't lift a finger for these things.
On one hand, suffering for things, especially for companies, is an overblown idea. On the other, the idea that everything should be purely personally engaging will continue to ruin us.
